Default Shifting

While racing where are u guys shifting? It seems like my car shifts so much nicer at around 6500 rather than revin to like 7k. Is that true with anyone else ? Also I never understood the concept of double clutching. I have heard its alot better for racing but also is really abusive to the cluth. Can anyone explain that ?

i found that shifting right before the rev limit is the best. i tried shifting at various points to see if it would make a difference at the track, and the higher you rev before you shift, the faster you will run.

forget the double clutching "theory".

h22 trannies don't like high rpms as much as other trannies do. Double clutching is not necessary in car's with synchros in the transmission, and its a hell of a lot slower. F and F is full of bullshit like that

First of all petern101 ive never seen the movie so i wouldnt know. I heard it from somewhere awhile ago. And no i wasnt street racing YO. When i said nicer i mean it pops in gear alot faster and smoother and feels like i accelerate quicker. And the clutch is strong.... synchros maybe ??

well, when i race, ( on the track ) my car feels like shifting at about 6500-6800 rpm, is faster, but its not.. i figured out that shifting just before redline is slightly faster. just like BB6racer said. but keep in mind that 7400 rpm redline isnt really 7400, the tach lags a lil bit.. when i shift at redline, its really about 6900-7000.

Stock tachs are usually 200-400 rpm's off by redline, mine is 700 off. they just aren't perfectly accurate. Aftermarket tachs are better. As far as shift points, I've found that shifting at 7600 (1-2), 7400 (2-3, 3-4) is the fastest in my car. Its almost .3 faster than shifting at 7k.

*Edit- forgot to add that those shift points are the real rpm's, not what my tach reads.

Yeah. I shift

1st - 2nd - 8012 - just to stay in vtec and keep that momentum

2nd-3rd - about 7800

3rd-4th - about 7600

4th-5th - never got that high, so wouldn't know. I've only ripped it through 4th before.

Muffler bearings, definitely your muffler bearings. Your just not revving high enough....or I'm not high enough, I don't know.

shift when it stops making power.

all other points made on this thread are virtually useless unless you're driving THEIR car, and not yours.

most of the time its better to shift a little higher than your peak power rpm. you also have to consider how much power you make where ever the rpms fall to in the next gear.

why do people love jdm? that's what i've never understood. not too many jdm parts actually perform a function the usdm counterparts didn't, and even fewer are worth the ridiculous prices you have to pay for them. people buy jdm parts for bragging rights, i buy parts to improve the performance of my car. Its just not my thing.

Because it is becoming rediculous, look at some of the recent posts..."Where can i get a JDM parking pole"... Its not original anymore. Welcome to 2003.

the only things i proclaim as jdm are the things that are physically or aesthetically advantageous to their usdm counterparts

h22 motors
m2b4 transmissions
bb2 headlights and foglights
"body kits" <---- i have yet to see one american made body kit i have ever liked, with the exception of the stock sh lip kit....which was probably designed in japan

thats about it....

about shifting....go to the quarter mile strip, or get two friends with flags and stopwatches, and time yourself making a run up a peice of street, and see which is best....
