Default Shifter cables or syncro?

My car goes into 5th with a slight grind then when i let go of **** and hit gas it pops out of 5th. If i hold it it stays in like normal. It doesnt engage 5th till the very highest point of 5th like right were it hits the shifter stop plate on the shifter assmebly. It also feels really mushy trying to get into 5th and reverse like its just stretching the cable instead of engaging into gear. Any help would be thankful, i dont wanna spend 600 on a tranny rebuild if its just my cables... It all happened after a mishift my freinds did into 4th.

Inspect the cables. When I busted my cables, it was due to a missed shift.

And the fact that it pops out as soon as the engine torques back also means it could just be the cables.

The grind is probably not due to the syncro being bad, but due to the cable not getting it all the way into gear.

Unless the shifter is pushing hard back on his hand I disagree, when the retaining clip on the syncro is worn, when the shift hub engages the syncro, first the worn syncro makes a grind, then the clip lets the hub pop right off.

If the shifter is pushing back on your hand, try putting it into 5th with the car off, see if the "tension" from the messed up cable pops the shifter back out, if so then yes, the cable is at fault. My vote is syncro/clip.

It stays in gear fine till i actually blip the gas in 5th. I started to notice the engagment for 5th being further up, almost like i could put the shifter all the way into 5th with no grind or engagment. I have to slam it way up and hold it to stay engaged while accelerating. Is there a way to visually inspect the cables?

Yea, definitely sounds like cables to me.

The place where the cables break is directly behind the engine where they make their turn from the shift lever to the transmission. Whatever you need to do to inspect them. Even if you can't see them, try to reach them and follow them SLOWLY with your hand. If the cable is broken it will likely be sharp so watch out.
