Default sequential shift light

Alright, im not sure how to explain this so please bear with me.

Ive seen lots of drag and rally cars with sequential shift lights, basically a row of lights that are green and then yellow when aproaching redline and then red for the shift. I am wondering how these lights are installed and where they get their signal from.

Long ago in a galaxy far away, my 4th gen prelude was an automatic. In the dash btwn the speedo and tach there is a bar of lights for the PRND321 so you know what the shifter position is. I want to replace some of these lights with the appropriate colors and make it synch with the tach and use it as a sequential shift light.

i found something like im talking about here: http://www.nology.com/shiftlight.html

I guess i could just buy that one from nology and wire it to the lights in the dash, but that wouldnt be as cool as doing it yourself. Anyone know if hondata or any other engine mgmt system can control something like this?

This project is in the conceptual phase, so an and all ideas and input are certainly appreciated

I think your best bet would be to wire it right to the lights. The "switch" for those lights are actually contacts next to where your auto shifter was. I believe they are on the drivers side of the center console. I imagine you could wire right into those wires to do this. You could test it pretty easily but putting +12V to them and seeing if/which lights come on.

buy the nology one and take apart the box with the lights. cut the wires and reattach them to the lights in your gauge face(or replace the lights on you gauge with the nology ones). then just follow install instructions.

you could possibly take the unused lights out and sand off the remaining letters/numbers from the automatic and fill the wholes.

I would also like to know if it is possible to make one of these on your own. What actually makes a Sequential Shift Light work?

if you buy a spa dash, you will have those f1 style shift lights!

it will only run you 2-3k

btw, it said long ago you had an automatic, i am assuming you have a manual conversion now. you could just make your CEL a shiftlight

gl, imo i have no use for shiftlights

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by machine4321 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">thats pretty cool but i tihkn hes just after the last little bit of the rpm range.</TD></TR></TABLE>

thats fine for what he wants, he can remove LEDs as he feels that he wants to. its very customizable.

If you had an aftermarket tach you could set it to come on about 500 rpm's or so (delayed reaction) before the peak shift point.
