reverse sleve exloded
whats up im drew, i just bought a 2000 prelude type sh and i drove it for a day and the reverse sleve exloded so the dealer ship says.... how could this of happen? he said from shifting fast?? how the hell can you breake the reverse sleve by shift fast mayby the previouse owners drove it bad? it has 99k on it so i know its still like brand new its a honda!! lol and im not new to standards either. (there fixing it for free cuz the warrenty but i was just woundering how it could have broke) sorry for the spelling i have school tonight and im in a hurry college night classes Thanks!!
i really dont see how you did Anythign wrong...only way i can think of breakin reverse is for u to go from a forward gear to a reverse while going forward.
ALOT of people think it is ok to have the car rolling and put it in reverse, ITS NOT OKAY,these people are on some kinda crack who think its ok. REVERSE GRINDS when people do this and it is possible for the previous owner did this all the time (lazy shifter and doesnt care)
But you most likely did nothing wrong but some people grind reverse due to they are still moving when they go into reverse which is not good at all.

Well your gears are paired so if you broke one gear you have to replace two. I think reverse and 5th are linked so you'd have to replace both of them. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
5th was kind of hard to get in to youd have to push it in. you can feel it not wanting to go in. but the guy said the gears are fine, its just that sleave that lines them up.?
what i am saying is.... like say the previous owner did this...
ok they're in a parking lot, they go to turn down an aisle, only to find they cant make the turn, so they are rolling at maybe 1-2mph and they pyut it in reverse and blew the sleeve...yeah it sounds crazy but if any of u are stupid enough to say "no that will not make it grind" yes the F it will. you are not suposed to put it in 1st OR reverse when moving at all really...yeah u can do 1st sometimes Maybe...but reverse is a NONO and most idiots think because they dont drive in reverse that they can grind it whenever they want ( not saying they do it all the time but they just dont care)...
to lazy idiot manual drivers who are super hard on the trans for no apparent reason....that being said the previous owner was prolly one of em.

Actually it only works like what your saying with 1/2 and 3/4. 5th and reverse are seperate.

that's only from fifth to reverse.
and ppl view shifting into first while in motion as bad because ppl don't blip the throttle enough/too much. if you know where the rpms are then you're good. honestly, i do that all the time. slipping is key. but for ppl who aren't good at it.. don't risk it.. you'll **** up your crankpulley like my friend did to mine.. that was not a fun thing to repair.
