Default reverse light switch problem

ok so after an unsuccessful search, i decided to try a post. i recently did a h22 swap into my 94 si lude, and to make a long story short the reverse light stays on unless i put it in 5th gear. does anyone know the proper way to reinstall the switch? we tried taking it out, putting it in reverse, and reinstalling it but it didnt work. any suggestions?? thanks in advance

well the car was already manual, and the wires are a male and female plug connectors so they really only go one way. any other suggestions?

Make sure your getting 12volts from the yellow/black wire. The switch could be bad.

i've had that EXACT problem. in my case, my lights didn't work at all so I tested the switch with a multimeter and found that it was bad. so i bought a new switch, put it in, and it did the same thing you're talking about!

after experimentation I found out that the spacing of how far the switch goes down into the tranny is critical. what you have to do is experiment by putting washers on the switch. these washer (s) act as spacer and allow crappy aftermarket switches to operate properly by maintaining properly clearances.

i went through about 2 differently thick washers and found that one washer of a proper thickness worked for me. i actually think i used one of those washers that goes on your oil drain bolt but don't hold me to it.

also, i was told by someone that the tranny should be in reverse while you install it. i don't how important it is, but i did it just in case and my reverse lights work now.

good luck!
