tell you the truth I have only ripped apart b series trannys and swapped gear ratios and moved a bad syncro from 3rd to 5th. I have never delt with new syncros I didnt even think you could get them. but know that I looked on honda believe the 5th gear synco is like $101. I could be wrong. also get some honda bond. plus if the teeth on the gears are worn down new syncros wont do much. again this statement could be wrong.

I am sure the is a good article somewhere about ripping about a h series tranny. I know I had a magazine with it in it but that was a long time ago. If I can find it this weekend maybe I can scan it.

as long as thirds not grinding Id say drive it the way it is. Just go lightly into fifth how often are you racing and slamming it into 5th (110mph). what usdm tranny anyway. is it a h22 or h23 or what?

Mine grinded into 5th for a long time until I heard about GM Synchomesh. Just go to any GM or Chevy dealer and get the kind with the blue label. I put in in my car
about a year and a half ago and since then, no grinding!

my old tranny had the exact same problem-grinding into fifth. just the honda-skimming, no biggie. eventually, thru a nonrelated problem, the entire tranny bit it, but before it did, my mechanic and i were looking into buying upgraded synchros for the tranny-they're carbon. not sure as to where to get them, but supposedly they're much better

dont jump the gun and asssume its the syncros the h series tranny has a bunch of notorious parts in the tranny that could cause identical probs.my experience in takeing them apart and hearing people say its the syncros 1/2 the time it aint lots of the time it is the hub and slider

I mean......it sounded bad enough to me, but not as bad as the griding noise when I slip and miss a gear. I had that done around 75k and now Im at 120k still with no grinding.
