Anything to do the tranny to beef it up? 3rd Grinds =P
I was wondering if there are any aftermarket parts like syncros or something for B series transmissions that would make it beefy? My 3rd gear grinds and sometimes its hard to put it into 4th. I know if I get another LS transmission I'm gonna run into the same problem down the line...
And I know a lot of other people who have the same problem with their 3rd gears with turbo cars.
Should I just get a GSR Transmission? From what I've heard, they are stronger and can handle more of a beating.
It's kind of embarrasing when I race and can't get it into 4th and I just rev in neutral for 2-3 seconds....

Once ur tranny starts grinding..its going to happen more frequently. After those syncros start wearing down there's not much to do...either get a new tranny or replace them. Only problem is Honda does not just sell the syncro by itself..you have to purchase the entire gear like entire 3rd gear and 3rd gear syncro. It will be very costly.
An easy way to hopefully fix your problem is change ur tranny fluid. Make sure you use the proper weight.
Or sometimes it could be the pressure plate...i've seen people use cheap *** P/P and it causes the tranny to grind when speed shiftin.

Actually, you are probably grinding due to the shift forks being worn. Replacing the forks with new ones will fix the problem until it wears again. The key to the problem is that the forks are a cheap aluminum that wears really fast on the sliders. I considered having some made out of titanium, but the quote I got made me sheet my pants.
pull the tranny, crack the case, replace all the bearings while you are there, replace the forks, replace the synchros. Good to go.
Parts cost, about $200, but a new tranny, priceless.
You can buy synchros by themselves. The rebuild kit for the tranny can be had for $160 from tranny rebuild places.

Hmm, I could have sworn I bought a synchro by itself.

I have a LS Tranny that has just been gone through and the only gear set that needed to be replaced was 2nd, So basically its brand new. They had to replace some seal as well. I also had a quaife installed as well. Still brand new. Its yours for $1400 bucks. Bascially a brand new tranny with quaife.

I wish I had read this post last week...My COMPLETE (since honda doesn't sell just the syncro) 3rd gear (including syncro) came for my B16A tranny yesterday. It cost me about 450cdn! And I also got all new bearings for the tranny. Will be installing the quaife this weekend!

Me too, although I am happy with my ITR tranny, I had the grinding third gear syndrome in my GSR as well. I sold it ensuring that the buyer knew that the tranny grinded at high RPM.

It doesn't matter what tranny you have if you own a Honda. 3rd gear sucks on b-series tranny's. When I had my LS transmission, it was always tougher to get into 3rd gear, and now with my GSR tranny, its still the same.
