Default replaced knock sensor and code 23 is back

Hello all

I replaced my knock sensor in my '94 Prelude Si 2.3 due to the cel reading code 23.
After replacement I cleared the ECU via removing the neg cable. Within 5 miles cel was back and reading code 23 again. Here in Cali they won't run a smog check when the cel is on and the dmv is frowning upon providing me with my 8th temporary!. Anyone have similar experience and/or solution?

Much thanks

If you replaced the knock sensor with another that you know was working, then the sensor is working properly and it is telling you that your engine is knocking.

I had a h23 with 235k on the engine that burned more and more oil, until it was impossible to drive, and I wanted an h22, so one day I blew the engine. It ran out of oil in 10 miles, 4 quarts in 10 miles (it was leaking a lot of the oil too), anyways. I blew a rod in that engine, and I could still start it up, knocking as loud as sin, and get no knock sensor code. I swapped in a h22, can't get rid of knock sensor. Tried a known working one, still gives me code. Ran new wire too. Knock sensors are so touchy. I want to put a resistor on the wire or something, so it never bothers me again. I've spent too much time driving around with my car being retarded (literally)

In response to Scheizty's reply saying;

"If you replaced the knock sensor with another that you know was working, then the sensor is working properly and it is telling you that your engine is knocking."

O.k. interesting.

So, first off, I run 91 octane.
secondly - no audible knocking or performance change post
knock sensor replacement nor prior to replacement.
Thirdly, and most important to me, is when the ECU reports an
error thru CEL (reading code 23) IS this reporting an error WITH
the knock sensor OR is it just telling my that the knock sensor is
registering "knocking" in the block.

I tend to lean towards the ECU reporting an error with the knock
sensor or the lead to it rather than telling me my engine is knocking.

Any opinions, experiences, suggestions or resolutions around this issue
wolud be welcome.

Thanks

it is both really as there is no seperate code

read my list of codes on my write-up
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-prelude-4/diy-diagnose-check-engine-lights-4th-gen-prelude-2495089/

i personnaly had to change 6th knock sensors and rewire it twice just to get the cel off...(I prolly would have just changed the sensor once if i wouldn't be so cheap and not steal used ones from the junkyard )

check and double check the connection to the sensor and if possible check your timing.

sucks you live in cali to ...no emissions in Canada

wrong, if you get code 23, there is a problem with the sensor , or related wiring. if the engine is knocking, the ecu will simply pull timing as needed. I had the same problem. I did not fix it until the entire wire was replaced as well as the connector that goes to the sensor. I know some will say you have to run a shielded wire, but I have a simple 18 gauge wire and it is spliced onto a green 2 wire connector with the other wire just cut off. Been like this for over a year now with no more code 23.

What "Canada" do you live in? I have emmissions tests here in Ontario. I don't have to write another letter to my M.P. do I...

Any car thats less than like 20 years old needs E-tests I believe. After a certain age I think you don't have to E-test it.
