Refilling AC
I just installed my new compressor a few days back, it came with 2 brand new lines attached to it. I installed them up, put the belt on it, everythings turning fine- its just not wired up yet. I know i need R134a, and some oil- but i heard someone say i need to vacuum the lines, and someone said i just need to add free-on. A friend of mine said he can install the free-on for free...hah, but he didn't know about vacuuming- hes added freeon to his car all the time- but since i just put it back on and everythings empty i think it would be different. I might just take it into a shop though...i dunno any help?
In order for the AC system to work properly, there must NOT be any moisture or contaminants in the lines. In order to take that out, you must pull vacuum to take out the moisture. Pulling vacuum also checks to ensure your system is leak free.
Purge your lines, then add compressor oil and refrigerant. Also, remember to purge your AC manifold/gauge lines when you install the refrigerant can ready for filling. I did this once as well, I pugred the system using a vac pump, but I forgot to purge the line connected to the refrigerant can.
