Default Radius Rod Replacement

The only way to adjust caster on the 5g SH is to replace the radius rod on a side with +,- 2.5mm part. Have any of you changed a radius rod before? How hard is it?

its extremely easy just one castle nut on the end that bolts to the hub and another eccentric nut on the center subframe. also i think you have to disconnect the rear section of the exhaust to get it out dont remember if i did or not mine was bent and threw the rear toe way off jsut be sure to do an alignment asap.

How can there be more than one bolt per each side of the radius rod? :

Generally, does replacing the front radius rod just mean unbolting and rebolting? Nothing in the way, nothing to press out, etc etc?

it's the same for 4th gens and 5th gens. They are very EZ to remove/replace. There are 2 bolts that connect the back end of the radius rod to the lower control arm, and 1 nut on the front end of the radius rod. Nothing to press out, the rubber bushing just sits in there, it's not tight at all.

Adjusting caster can be done by adding or removing washers on the end of the radius rod. If you need more caster and your car does not have any washers to remove then the only other option is to have a machine shop shorten the length of the coller on the end of the radius rod.

I sell a solid spherical bearing replacement radius rod bushing for competition use on my web sight (see my sig), and you can download the install directions that might help if you want more direction in removing them.

I'm not 100% sure if the kit works in 4th gens or not. I need a few simple measurements from a 4th gen to make sure. If anyone gets the time let me know the following:

Diameter of the threaded section on the front of the radius rod.
aprox Diameter of the bushing socket on the front cross beam.
Diameter of the through hole inside the front Cross beam (inside the bushing socket)

Look at the link I posted. The SH radius rod is different; only one bolt at each end. No shims/washers etc for adjustment.

I'm going to be replacing the radius rod. I don't have to replace the bushing right? It's $30 by itself.

no need to replace the bushings unless it's falling apart. O, you have an SH. Yes, that's going to be a little different. The bushing in the SH looks like it might be pressed in, sorry I have no idea. It also looks like you have no way to adjust caster on the SH, short of changing the radius rod to a shorter version.

Yea, I was just looking at the manual and there's a part about pressing in/out the bushing. I'm going to need to rent some kind of tool for this huh?

Can someone please look at the 5g helms for me and explain to me what needs to be done to take off the radius rod at the ball joint/knuckle side? It's not very clear to me.

5g Helms manual can be downloaded here:

Bump, what exactly needs to be done to take off the radius rod on the ball joint side? Just one nut?
