quick question
The little tube sticking out of the valve cover. I did what almost every other person has done which is put a small breather filter. Well now I have oil coming out of it. Any suggestions? Cap it? Maybe recline the position of the filter?
little tube. . . . crank case evac hose that runs to the intake manifold? Umm. . . oil coming out of this. . . check your pcv valve make sure it isn't stopped up . . other than that main cause would be blow by.
Yep, check your PCV valve. If you can shake it and it doesn't make any sound you need a new one. It is supposed to let the engine vacuum suck all that pressure through the intake manifold.
I don't claim to be a PCV expert, but I believe the hose from the intake tube is where air is supposed to be drawn FROM going into the valve cover, and then it exits through the PCV on the right side into the intake manifold. My guess for a filter instead of the tube would be to allow more airflow into the valve cover area. The only reason anything should come out of that side is if the PCV is clogged/stuck/broken as mentioned above.

It functions exactly the same...I guess people mainly do it to clean up the engine bay or for looks.

umm. not really. the air flowing into the throttle body actually pulls a vacuum on the crankcase. The filter just allows any built up pressure to "vent". the pcv valve also has a vacuum line that attaches to the intake manifold. It does pull a vacuum on the crankcase. The reason I put a filter on my valve cover instead of running a vacuum line to the intake tube is to keep the incoming air cooler and also to keep the intake cleaner.
furthermore. . . the reason for the pcv system anyway is to help the piston rings seal better. so yea if you have oil coming out of the filter . . . . change your pcv valve. If this doesn't fix the oil problem. have a mechanic do a compression test on the engine to see how good of shape it is in.

umm really. You have one tube connected directly to the intake manifold (LOTS of vacuum) and another that has some air flowing past the end of it (which would create a small amount of vacuum, yes), which one do you think is actually going to pull pressure out of the crankcase? The Honda diagrams of the PCV system shows that the tube is only there to provide fresh air, that's how it was designed. Maybe you get some oil from the tube, but it's not supposed to be that way...

well it could be the PCV or the pressure rings and oil rings are down the ******* allowing more pressure in the head than the PCV can handle. I got 165 149 157 and 145. Thats worse that a 8:1 compression. Back to the shed for me.
