vtec will be fine, i have the same egr problem. as for the motor, i would say keep your current motor as long as possible, but when it does finally die on you, go with the h22a.

EGR stuff i dont kno about. but i can definitely relate to you with the H22A1 swapping thing. i got 208k and sick oil leaks. still pulls hard though! but i know its gonna go out soon so im saving now! just start saving for the H22A from this point on. so atleast u know if the motor dies out u already have the next one ready to drop in! good luck with the EGR thing though sorry i was no help.

I had the EGR code (12). I removed the valve (it's just behind the head, easy enough to get to but you'll need a thin socket extension to get the two nuts off) and cleaned it out with carb cleaner as suggested elsewhere (have a search, there's lots of stuff about). It was full of black gunk, now it's nice and clean and no codes

My EGR valve had no gasket on it and I couldn't find one easily, so I just used some Holts Instant Gasket which seemed to work fine, though might have been unnecessary.

Sad thing was, the very next day my clutch master cylinder died!
