question on testing the icu using helms.
need some help from you experts.
i don't quite understand from the helms service manual on testing the ignition control module. i want to find out if my icu is good or bad. helms instructions are to test the wires (wires are unpluged in the diagram). the wires seems to test alright but i still don't know if the icu is good or bad. this may be a stupid question but was i suppose to test the terminals of the icu itself? should i unplug the wires to the terminals?
thanks in advance.
oh yeah, this is a prelude 97 sh

May I ask you ,Why are you testing it anyway? Is it actually faulty? Being an electronic device, they are usually dead or alive. If you don't understand the instructions, leave it alone and take it to the dealer. You can stuff one of these very easily-seen it done many times!!!
hey beart0y, just wondering will the dealer be able to test it for me? i went to auto part places like napa, kragen and autozone and only one of those places test icu's but no for the 5th gen preludes. thanks.
Yes, the dealer is best in this situation. It may cost a little more but they have the info and equiptment to check it out. You didn,t mention what had gone wrong! Another thing, if the ICU has gone bad, did something else further down the track cause it? Its no good curing the symptom when the disease is still there. Let me know how it goes. Cheers
ok i went to the dealer with my icu, coil and ecu but they say they don't test anything unless it's still in the car. the problem is my car is not starting. but i went over the helms again and the test is actually for the ignition control module INPUT. so it's not an icu test. anyway i'm just gonna buy a new one and replace it - that's the only way to test it. thanks for the help.
