That depends on what you are doing to the motor. Throw a turbo, SC, or nitrous on there and a 3" will be beneficial.

3" is a bit big for nitrous; you want the best performance off the bottle, since that's when you drive the most (unless you're a madman!). Is 3" good for S/C? Cause I know they still need backpressure, unlike a turbo. 2.25" is a good accepted size for a N/A car.

I dont recommend going for a dual exhaust setup. And 2.5in piping will probly get you the most hp with a small loss of torque.

should I get full exhaust system from say....greddy?? or should I get custom piping from a shop??? Personally I like the look of some of the universal exhausts such as obx, but I'm not sure if there up to par with name brand equipment.

If you want performance, buy a catback from a bigger company, like Tanabe or Greddy or Thermal. Just a muffler won't do anything but change the sound. Most shops use crush-bending to make the pipes fit, causing a lot of turbulence and restricting in the bends, so unless you know of a cheap local shop that does mandrel bending, go w/ a full catback.
