Default problem with taillights

i have a 92 lude and sterero is gone, it was a theft recovery, but anyways my problem is that the tailights are constantly on when the fuse is in, so i have to pop the hood every time i want my tail lights on, anyone ever had this problem, how to fix it, cause it's a pain in the ***.

Some wires may be crossed or there is a short someplace. You should take it to a shop and have them rewire the car

use a voltmeter and check the ground wires on your lighting system. there should be no voltage there. when you do this make sure that the car is on (or in acc, which ever works)

if you have voltage then you have a ground in contact with one of your power contacts.

also check the HOT to ground connection. using the diode portion of the multimeter read from HOT to ground. if it beeps then you have a short to ground in the power wiring.

if at any point you find something wrong skip a few feet of wire (using the same referance point i.e. same ground or hot point) and move the other lead. continue doing this until you come across a section where you do not have a problem. the rest of that wire will be ok. in the area that you have already checked shorten the leingth of distance between check points until you find it.
