Problem with start-up
Hey guys, anyways i have a 97 honda prelude ss and it has 140k miles. it has an engine rebuld and i have already replaced the spark plugs, wires, rotor,cap etc. the car runs fine but some times the car will take a few moments for it to ignite and turn on. could it be that i need a new starter? it is pretty old.any help will be greatly appreciated
check battery voltage if cranking over slowly. should be 12.6v or so and 14.2v while running. these are averages a little higher lower is not the end of the day. check it out, sounds like battery is sulfated/dying

I have the same problem. The engine turns normal but its like it won't fire for 1-2 seconds then it starts (but rough). This only happens once in a while, the rest of the time its perfect.
Changed: cap-rotor, distributer
Plugs max 1 year old (iridium)
Recent plug wires
Redid all the stock ground wires (the problem was there before anyways)
Battery is max a year old
I might change the plugs and see if that helps, but usually plugs last much more than a year! I realized that cylinder 3 plug had a little brownish color..
Did you check all your plugs?

battery -> chassis - > tranny
valve cover --> chassis
wiring harness -> thermostat housing area
take out the starter and have it tested. Some of the parts store chains will have equipment to test them.
I've also seen a starter crank slowly because of a bad solenoid (which is sort of built into the starter).

Just finished checking the battery, the meter read as follows; 12.6 with the car off, 14.3 with the car on at idle. then it must be either the ground wires or the starter?
Is it cranking at a normal speed? If the starter was bad it probably would turn over like normal, it's either going to spin the engine or it's not....
