Default premium or regular?

Hey Guys I just bought a 96 Predlude Si like a month ago and I've been putting regular gas in it. But I just noticed it says premium fuel only, and I know this is probably a dumb question, but does it really matter????? tHaNx

Yes, fill it with premium otherwise you're going to get knocking... that's bad for the engine.

i have a 94 si and i got it about 2 months ago. the first month i poured premium only, but that got kinda expensive so i started pouring the middle one since that is what the old owner said he used to use. i'm not sure if there is that much difference between premium gas and the middle gas except 10 cents for each gallon....i don't notice that much of a difference in performance....tell me if i'm screwing myself over and not even knowing it...thanks for the help as well....

You don't want to dentonate your engine do you, you might if you race it hard... Either way, it's worth it to pay a little more.

does $1.50 everytime you fill up really make it worth using lower grade fuel?

i think thats just dumb

honda uses premium fuel for a reason. if they wanted you to use 87 octane it wouldnt say "premium fuel only"

The reason you want to use 91(the hghest in cali) or 92 or 93, higher octane in other wurd is because you are gunna cause it to detonate which isnt good for your motor. the reason this happenes is because your mototr gets really hot and in the cylinder when the air/fuel is being compressed its temp is rising and when you use low octane your fuel will pre-ignite causeing it to detonate. o god i suck at describing things. in other wurd when the cylinder is cmin up on the compression stroke the air/fuel is gotting hotter and hotter and if using low rated fuel while on the up stroke of the piston itl get so hot in there that the fuel/air mixture will ignite b4 it should(pre-ignitite) then causing it to knock. does that make any sence? anybody correct me if im wrong i took this enigne class like a year ago and havent thought about pre-ingnition sense.

The highest octane i can get up here (Alaska) is 90 so thats what i have to use. If you look in the owners manual it says use an octane of 86 or higher for the S model and all other models 91 or higher. The engine will compensate for lower octane but with a slight decrease in power. Cant wait to get back home to Texas where we got 94 lol.

I think it's really stupid how people come to this board wanting to spend 180 on a cold air intake, 300 on a header and 500-700 on a cat back only to ask dumb questions like "hey, i know the manufacturer says that i need premium octane on my car and hey, i might even know that my h23 motor has 9.8:1 compression making the highest octane very useful in keeping detonation down but come on, do i really need to spend a few more cents per gallon to save my car?" n00bs

ofcourse the higer grade fuel the better combustion you will get...better performance...i think its retarted not to spend a little bit more on gas...also octane booster at every oil change is a must on a high performance compact car like...ours

i wasnt asking because i cared about the money, i was just wondering if it mattered and if it would have done something to the car the past month that i have been using regular gas.....sorry were all not as cool and smart as you are...........
