Default prelude engine question

ok i have what im sure many of you may think is a stupid question, i am new to the import scene, i just picked up an 88 prelude si. i have a good knowledge of cars, as i am a huge lowrider builder (cadilacs, impalas, chevys, ect with hydraulics) i am very good at any aspect of a lowrider build, from the frame to the paint. i have worked on some musclecars, and classic hot rods before, and i know a v-8 like the back of my hand. my problem arises that i dont know alot of things about 4 cyl engines, i know all the basics of internal combustion engines in general, and how to make more power, but i dont know simple thing like what the good performance parts manufactureres are, of little tricks and stuff. my big question is what the engine code for my engine is, its the dohc 2.0 that is stock in the 88 si, and is the engine even worth trying to build up? thatnks for any held, and sorry about the dumb newbie questions

sounds like a fun job to have.....building old cars is fun stuff.....

as far as that engine, not sure on the code, but i know people on here know.....

its really not worth modifying....if you want to do something cool then do some research and see if youre up to swapping in an h22a...its the 4th/5th gen (92-96;97-01) prelude vtec engine....much better peice to modify....i could help you out with the general idea on that, and i know theres a guy that has swapped an h22 into an obd0 car like yours....see if he gets to you on this thread....

you could do a search and find some good parts manufacturers easily.....

Default Re: prelude engine question (chaddyb)

In 3 gen prelude, don't waste your time with H22.

You should have some variant of the B20a (4or5, somthing like 135bhp stock).

IF you are looking to swap in a new motor, go with a b18c1or c5 (hard to find/expensive), get a dart block(1.8, 2.0, and bulletproof) to build, or do ls vtec (cheaper, and generally more available if you DIY). It should be a straight drop in. The advantages are that you will have tons of aftermarket support, a better set of tranny options, and can keep your creature comforts with no fabrication involved.

If you are not looking to do any swapping, you can build what you have and turbo/hondata it.

There is a bunch of info on your generation at http://www.preludepower.com. As there seem to be no moderators with great interest in your gen, you may wish to check that out. There are a handful of helpful threads in the archives here too, however.

Happy Turkey Day!
