Default Possible Oil Pump Problem ???

So i was driving home on the thru way the other day and the car dies and oil light comes on. The car starts and runs but there is a small ticking noise coming from the engine on the timing belt side and sounds almost like a belt that is shreading and is rubbing, not really a metal rubbing sound. at first i thought my timing belt was shredding and was rubbing on the plastic guard. when i pulled the valve cover off i found out it wasnt that and when i pulled my crank pulley off and removed the timing cover i seen that i had an oil leak coming from my Oil Pump Gear Part 2 (http://www.hondaautomotivepart...AINER) I have had an oil leak for the past month now but was very minimal and thought i had traced it down to an old bung on the back of the head that seemed to be leaking but aparently it was coming from this though.

So i pulled the gear off and it spins and rotates fine but seems to have a little play in it but doesnt make any weird sound like what i heard when the engine was running if spun by hand. Also when i drained the oil it was clean(was changed less than 500 miles ago) and also my magnetic drain plug was clean leading me to think that the block should be fine.

Has anyone ever had an oil pump go or have any experience with H series oil pumps? Or does it sounds like something else is wrong? Would i need the new gear or whole oil pump and the gear can be reused?

If your oil level is ok, connect an oil pressure gauge and find out for sure. Don't run the engine until you know for sure.

i already have the engine apart (timing belts, gears. etc off) but am looking for more of a what should i be looking for type of thing that are kinda signs that it is the oil pump not the gear or vise versa. i realize not many people have experience with this but was hoping someone else has had this kind of problem and what they had to do. even my buddy whos a honda tech didnt know because he hadnt done anything with an Hseries oil pump. i dont think i can do the pressure test on the pump without having all the timing belts set up so ill give this another day and if no one knows i'll just put it back together and do the pressure test then tear it back down.

Oil level was never a problem also which is one of the reasons i was slow to fix the leak. I am also leaving in October for boot camp so car was gonna be put away and block rebuilt anyways but want to have it runing before i leave...
