Possible Engine Damage
Alright, so I picked up a '98 Prelude, non-running for real cheap. I find out that the crank pulley bolt has been snapped off in the crank and that is the problem (the guy I got it from was not mechanically inclined at all). No big deal right, well not too big of deal. The idiot that tried to remove it before attempted to weld something on to the broken bolt inside the crank, and guess what, he welded whatever he was trying to secure to the bolt, to the inside of the hole in the crank. So I use the trusty Dremel and remove all the excess weld metal and then I'm able to drill into the crank bolt and get it out. Surprisingly it came out without any hassle. So beside sharing that story, I am wondering if any damage is possible to the rest of the block by the crank pulley coming off. My first idea would be damage to the crank bearings, but is there any other damage you guys can think of that I should double cheack before I try to fire it up?
yea, usually if you mess with a crank pulley or pulley bolt it really shouldest wreck anything else related with the crank, like mgags7 said start it up and if it makes a *pinging* sound if so, theres probably a bad bearing.
Yeah I didn't think that I had much else to worry about, but I wanted to see if I may be overlooking something. Thanks guys. Once I get the pulley and the bolt & key set in the mail then I'll let you guys know the outcome.
Thanks
