oil level
sorry to ask this stupid question but what is the proper amount of oil for the '00 lude? my dealer puts in 4.8L (stated oil pan capacity) but friend's dealer puts in 5.5L?? also once on this board I saw someone once say that the oil needs to be half a quart over the upper hole of the dipstick for proper vtec engagement or something? is this true? any ideas...thx guys...
Hello 00lewdSH. I would recommend going with what the helms manual says. If it states to service it 4.8l, that is how much I would initially put in. Let the car warm up to operating temperatures and then check it again. If the fluid level were between the two holes in the dipstick then I would call it good. If for some reason you don't like the level you can always do a top off. I would not recommend over filing your oil tank capacity. I have seen oil components blow seals due to over servicing. But those experiences were not auto related. And if I am not mistaken your vtec engagement has to do with oil pressure. The oil capacity and pressure go hand and hand with each other. If you don't have enough oil in your car, you cannot build pressure for your vtec solenoid engagement.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong by all means.

It's 5.1 US QUARTS (4.85 L I'd top it off at 5 L ) with the filter. Your oil level should be at the top dot; that indicates that your oil level is FULL; between the two dots means half a quart low; at the bottom dot you're a quart low. The dealer guy that says it needs to be 1/2 a quart over is a moron.
