obx lsd users post up
went the cheap route to see what would happen ( have another h22 tranny in the garage ). and so far the car has done really well. the car hooks really well. its got roughly 6000 miles on it now. no problems what so ever. i recently cracked the driverside axle at the track and need to take them both out. so when i do we will see if the problems have been fixed when taking out the axles.

that is the only problem i have heard of so far about the OBX LSD. be sure to let us know how it goes, because that is the only thing holding me back from buying one.

Companies like OBX aren't worth supporting as they don't support their customers. They make garbage parts for anyone willing to buy them. I have learned my lesson and will buy parts from companies that support racers. OBX is not one of them, nor will they every be. Be my guest and roll the dice though... you may be next.
i wouldnt say obx is exactly bad, torquing the bolts to spec will definitly improve the reliability of the lsd.
you never know maybe alot of ppl who use them just slap them in and dont torque the bolts or break them in properly and there is the result of the lsd being a POS... install and proper break in is key with any aftermarket part... camshafts, pistons, rings, clutches, lsd, ect just think about it

When the prices are close to the same, I'll gladly support a local business over a chain, or a genuine engineered product to a copy, but if I can save $300 and get the same quality product, I'll do it
update. 11000 miles and over 120 launches and guess what the only things that have broke are my axles. so to all the haters eat my nuts! j/k ive been really happy with how well this unit works
i did not disassemble this damn thing and retorque everything and amazingly it woks fine. wierd
i also know my share about cars espically h22's and after researching this unit i concluded that it was a safe try. there have not been that many people that have had these fail on them. the only problem was the axles being removed. once the axle is out you can have the lip inside beveled so that you wont have the same problem. i dont trust many people on here.
too many think that are god and dont know the first thing about cars.
ps not my feelings are not hurt. its my choice on the parts i use and if they break then that is my problem and you arnt going to see a post about how crappy the part was.

thats cool glad its working out for you, but with all the time / work / money ive put into my own vehicle, i would never allow my self to put such a product into my car, same with john d he's got a nice prelude with a good motor, tune and turbo setup id really like him to skip the cheap stuff and pass on the obx as a lsd and run what the big boys use...obx... its a ticking time bomb.. i personally run quaife and spent the extra few dollars because of this notion...
and yes i am god with cars and know absolutely nothing :/

out of curiosity, how does one "break in" a diff like obx or quaife?

i've heard of a break in procedure for a clutch type diff, never heard of anything for a gear type though.

What's the scoop, in detail, on the OBX? Why does it get a bad rap? I've done a search and this is pretty much all I find and I haven't read any specifics as to why it is inferior? I've just heard it is "cheap". I'm not trying to pick at anyone either, just trying to do some research for my project.
Thanks for a good forum where ideas and experiences can be shared!

the only breaking in is the figure 8's that people do for the clutch type LSd's

itis cheap. lol. i have one and it has about 15000 miles on it and no problems yet. the biggest problem was that axles were getting stuck in the diff and it was hard to get them out. some ppl tore the hell out of their axles just trying to get them out.
i bought it as an experiment. ive got a spare tranny so if it tears mine up ive got another.
