Default New to the forums

Just made it over here finally. Board is nice & seems like it's got a bunch of useful information. I'm driving around an 1989 Prelude Si while I'm building up my '93 Prelude VTEC for allmotor

I'm currently doing mostly headwork & some other goodies too: P&P, multi-angle valve job, deburring the chambers, deshrouding the valves, gasket matching, Crower Stage 2 (w/stock idle lobes), Skunk2 valve train w/high comp valves, crower cam gears, PE Timing belt, manual timing belt tensioner swap, AEM underdrive pulleys, Nology wires, DC Header, Thermal cat back exhaust, and VAFC II. At the same time I'm going to have the block freshened up (ran out of loot to build the bottom end). Car is going to be more for race, but also for showing off & pimping on the weekends.

Here's my first (of many) questions: I'm thinking about shaving the head to bump the compression up, but am lacking in knowledge regarding it so I'm hesitent. I read that a bump in compression by 1 point equals 15-20 hp. Also read that the mods I have will respond better to higher compression. Can anyone assist with the sharing of knowledge. I'm sure that the guy doing the head/block work can assist in determining the proper amount to mill it down to get to a good compression, but I have no idea what that would be. Any opinions on that.

P.S.> one more question: how do I post stuff up in the classifieds? I don't think it will let me because I'm a noob

Welcome.Seems as if you have a good project going. As far as compression goes thats about right the old rule of thumb is about 7% for every point. What exactly are you gonna do to the bottom end.The reason for asking is H series motors are notorious for spun bearings and with higher compression and highr revs you will be increasing the chance of that.

Otherwise welcome again.

Ditto.
Hit up the "Lude" forums early and often, "All-Motor" too; not many posts there, but it's hardcore w/lots of good info.

Wires are wires IMO, and if you're really serious about a nice all-motor set-up, take that DC header off of your list.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

By the way, welcome to HT

drop the DC header. do a search for the SMSP header. see if you can get on the list to get one of those if you are serious about power. they seem to give the most bang out of all of them.

already got the DC sports header & nology wires.

I'm going to send the block out to be dissassembled, cleaned, and checked to see how bad it has worn. I'm hoping that it isn't too bad & will just have the cylinders honed & replace the rings, bearings, and seals. Will be doing a new waterpump & oilpump to be on the safe side too. Wish I could do more, but gotta cut the spending somewhere.
