Default New Engine

I'm looking at getting a H23a3 for my 1997 Prelude and was wondering what some of the best places to order one from. I have heard of jdmendinedepot.com and was wondering if anyone on here has used that site, or what you guys prefer. Thanks!

Why wouldn't you just get an h23a vtec bluetop engine? That is a better engine with more power and are always easy to find at good prices. As for places to buy from I have order from JDM Engine Depot and they are good people always helpful and eager to answer their phones when you have a question about something.

It has a H22A4 in it now. Not sure if it's a bluetop or not. How could you tell?. Still kinda new to this stuff. I want it to be extremely light weight.

If it's an h22a4, is not a Bluetop lol. That is the USDM prelude base and Type SH engine and only had a black valve cover. It is a good engine, and makes about 40hp than a non Vtec h23 which is why I don't see why you would go that route at all. Also is the car auto or manual and what model is it? The auto/SH models are a hassle and a half lol

If you have engine trouble, and are just going to swap it out, another H22 is your best bet. After that I would say the H23A as well, but any of the non-vtec H23 variants would be a waste of time.

All of the H series engines are going to be pretty much the same weight as your current engine, so unless you go from an auto to manual, or SH to standard trans, you won't be getting any lighter. The only weight concern in a Prelude would be a J-swap, and there are only a handful of those around.

If you are thinking of replacing the engine for performance reasons, you need to take a step back and do a TON of research, and then make an informed decision as to what you do, and why you do it.

There are many people who may chime in with ideas or opinions, but at the end of the day, the ones that should probably be trusted, are NOT the ones who will spoon feed you information on everything you want to do, we have heard many pipe dreams, while building our own engines and learning what the best course of action is and why.
