Sorry for my total newbieness I dont have 1 clue about hondas really, well there is an 88 honda prelude its a 5 speed it has 92k miles on it, its not the nicest car I was mainly just interested in getting it for my beater when I work on my supra I dont have to beg friends for rides I can just drive the Honduh lol well im pretty sure im getting it, the dude wants 800$ for it, it runs strong nice and quiet its been owned by a man who drives it once every month, It has a 2.0s on the back I dono if thats good or bad my friend says get it and lets drop a h22 in it, I said alright basicly will an h22 drop in correctly with no problems? and is that the best motor to drop in it? Thanks in advance if anybody has any info on this year/gen car plz tell me.

I wouldn't trust the B20 motor that's in there, that's for sure. From what I know they are notorious oil burners and an overall bad Honda engine to avoid.

If you are going to drop in an H22a and you're sure about you are in luck as there is a mount kit made by place racing.

And here's a good link on what you need to do http://www.teaminterlude.com/3rdGenH22Swap.asp

Maybe other peeps have some other links as well. It sounds relatively easy from a quick read if you are mehanically inclined.

Big ups to Supras, my 87MKIII is mad tite yo! Haha I'm doing an auto to manual swap on it next week just so I don't go insane on that damn auto tranny. Seriously I should just get the 1JZ, but I can't justify a 280hp twin turbo motor on my beater

Your mkiii is your beater!? what are you smokin! heheahah

I have 2 mk3's 1 5 speed 1 Auto Id rive the Auto 1 more been ripping the 5 speed 1 apart, Looking at a 90T-66 right now for 3600, has 330 Hp right now I got the money for it gonna have to buy a New HG and I know ima need this prelude beater lol.

Ill read over the site a little bit, How much does this prelude weight? and putting a H22 in it would be a good choice? im getting told by various people to get a b18c5 or an H22 whats better for this car? I dont really know what 1 to choose or what to do money isnt really any object lol. Thanks in advance.

Yeah the mkiii could be a really good car and I like driving it alot but I had the prelude first and all the money went there first. Do you actually like the Auto tranny from the 7M-GE? I would love to have a clean mkiii to do something with. A friend is just putting in a 1JZGTE as we speak...I'm a little jealous but I get his NA 5-speed tranny for free

Anyways, I don't think there is a mount kit for the B series into a 3rd gen prelude. Even though it's a "B20" motor, it's not really like any of the Civic/Integra b-series motors.

I agree that in a smaller car a b-series is a lighter motor and won't affect the handling/weight distribution as much. An h22a would be somewhat front heavy.

To be honest I don't think a 3g prelude is a good platform for any swap. I would rather be looking for a 88-91 CRX (Preferably fuel-injected) or like a 92 civic hatch. At least get a car that there are a lot of parts/mount kits/ b-series motors available for. I think the prelude will just **** you off and suck up your money. But if you are like me and wouldn't be caught dead in a civic you could get 92 S model prelude (4th gen) and drop in an H22a. Now that's easy. Maybe just upgrade the from calipers and you're done.

yeah the CRX's and EF/EG hatches are great beaters.

the D-series is indestructible, if slow, and the b16/b18 swaps are pretty straightforward. not to mention both cars are light as hell...

Yah I like the auto trany better in my supra maybe its just me but whenever I see a non turbo car I see it for the pimpness no since ni trying to make it fast IMO so why go all out and get 5 speed and non stop non turbo mods its not worth it honnestly no offence to anybody who does all motor you get props from me if you do it and get fast Its just not my style.

I was thinking of jsut getting the prelude for a beater and throwing a new motor in it for fun just a little somthing to do, I kidna like to do this Im only 16 but I have fun with my cars lol, my friend has a suziki samurai and hes putting a 305 in it as we speak. IM not goin all out and doing that atleast Ims ticking with the same motor for the same type of cars haha.

Well this prelude has 92k miles its still cherry they run as long as toyotas when ran like an actual car and not dogged every stoplight thats the nly reason id get a honda. me and my brother have a crx we share we never touch it, tis a 87 carburated crx its slow as hell lol but it has 247k miles on it and STILL running good. thats probly just what ima do with the prelude, not dogg it at all and keep the 2.0 on it and find antoher different type of honda to make a quick little project car.

I used to have a girlfriend that drove a 1g crx it was pretty damned slow she loved it to death it was pretty coo little car tho just to have fun in I had alot of memorys in it haha, IM sorry I dont mean to disrespect anybody but hondas arnt exactly the fastest on the road I dont see why so many people have them to race like they do I mean there great little cars the parts are a dime a dozen I infact have never been beaten by any honda in my 88 NA Automatic supra and ive ran across MANY preludes and everything Im not dissing them cause I got friends with them, there great cars but the only honda id probly try and make fast is the Prelude and s2k haha.

sorry for my constant talking its 6am been up all night :-D

If you are set on the H22a in the 3rd gen, I think the H22a is the on;y viable option. With decent suspension upgrades I don't think you'll really find it to be a major problem as far as 'plowing' the front end or anything. With the power and troque it will be a fast car. Check the link I posted for details.
