need help!
my 4th gen h23a **** itself on the freeway today, and I need some help resolving the problem...
knocking from cylinder 1, sounds like the piston hitting the top of the cylinder head? In other words it sounds terminal...
Any other possibilities?
Any idea on how many hours it will take my mechanic to bolt in another H23a (ie same engine) if I buy one? Do I need the whole block or just the head?
cheers for the help guys... now i am going to go away and cry...

u have skills. u can stand there and tell the first cylinder is knocking.
u can do a h22 swap for under 3k. i dont know how much the h23 swap would but it cant be that much cheaper.

If its just a spun bearing, you will have to either replace your crank or move up to larger sized bearings if the crank is salvageable. You might need a new rod/rods depending on the condition of the old ones or get larger bearings.
I would yank the motor out, inspect the damage, and take all the fucked up parts to a machine shop and have them give you a quote on how much it will cost to repair the damage. After you have a price range, then you decide if it is cheaper to buy a whole new block or either fix what fucked up.
If you pay someone to do the labor, you might be better off to just buy a whole new block. Your head should be just fine unless you end up breaking a rod and bending your valves all to hell as well as ruining your combustion chamber.

yeah, it's no. 1, its pretty easy to tell...
so in laymans terms, there is a possibility that its just the block thats dead, not necessarily the head??
I eventually want to turbo, so everyone I have spoken to reccommends staying with the H23.
On engine swaps though.... what about an SR20DET?? not loyal, true, but they are dime a dozen and still alright engines. Anyone know if that implant is possible?
What about other options... any suggestions? Type R engine maybe?
I am looking for some good info and ideas!

thats what I thought. The lude engine puts out more power than the teg anyway doesn't it?1
what about that SR20DET? is it even possible to put a RWD engine into a FWD?
or what about the engine from a TT soarer??
working with a budget of up to 5-6g, but most of the work will be done in a shop.
