Default n00b question

What would be the advantages/disadvantages of running 89mm pistons in a H23a (resleeved of course) as opposed to stock?

advantages-more displacement

disadvantages- no room for error if you melt a piston or
something you would probably have to resleeve.

is this for an all motor setup?

agreed, theres no replacement for displacement

except for a turbo.

bigger displacement will make lots more torque

Stupid old school playground tails. It's called a turbo, a supercharger, or a N2O shot.

if your running any type of forced induction there are huge advantages

going with the bigger bore will help no matter what type of induction you have , in addition to the small bump in displacement, you will help improve breathing by slightly de-shrouding the combustion chamber which helps the airflow coming around the valves

Boring out the block doesn't affect the head whatsoever, and certainly does not involve deshrouding of the valves. What are you talking about?

89mm is kinda cutting it close for forced induction if it's a fi build. N/A bigger the displacement the better.. but I wouldn't go that much for forced induction, imo.

thanks for the info guys.
The setup WILL be for FI. The pistons are 9:1 CR.
I am just starting a build up, probably about 6 months before I hope to be running boost. (8psi daily- up to 15 ish)
Other mods include: Darton sleeves, Crower rods, Power FC (coming) and a P&P.

I went with the 89's cause I thought they would be better for my setup, but are you guys saying that is incorrect?
Is there anything I can do now to help protect the pistons while running boost?

cheers.

you could have them swain-tech coated and pc9 side coated to
help protect against detonation.

i would NOT go with 89 mm for FI, go with 87 or 88 and
just turn up the boost to make up for less displacement.

ahh crap!
Well the problem is that the pistons are already in... I've had the block and sleeves machined and everything...
So is the biggest problem (when running boost) with this setup detonation? If so, running 98 octane and good tuning should help, right?
i was going to hold off installing the Power FC until I hook the turbo up, but should I do it now?
