Default My continuing progress

Last night I was out at Southwest International Raceway (Tucson) for a test and tune session. Tuscon's elevation (at the track) is 3100ft. This is compared to Firebird's 1200ft where I ran my 12.7 pass a few weeks back. Usually there is a 3 to 4 tenth of a second faster time to be run at Firebird compared to SIR. The wind was blowing fairly good slightly against the running cars and across the track. Temps were in the low 80's.

My first pass was very interesting. I red lighted, but even yet the pass felt really slow. The car pulled very hard to the right most of the way down the track. I ran a 13.067 @ 104.29 (1.740 60ft). I was a bit suprised, with the difference in elevation, that put me fairly consistant with my passes at Firebird. The next pass was in the left lane. The launch seemed to have a bit more wheelspin off the line, but the car felt alot faster this pass finishing with a 13.065 @ 106.71 (1.771 60ft).
Third pass was back in the right lanewhereas I felt traction would be better. I was right but I red lighted again. I rarely do this and I was pissed...lol. Anyway I ran a 12.962 @ 105.27 (1.742 60ft). My friend the entered me into a braket race "gambler" since I was running somewhat consistant times. I dialed in at a 12.95 figuring that would be good enough. Well, my first pass I broke out running a 12.855 @ 105.98 (1.709 60ft). I am learning how to get the car hooked up finally. My 60ft times are consistantly dropping and I have only done very minor tweeking. My goal is to get the car into the 1.65 60ft range and figure out how to get some more weight out of it without taking away from being a daily driver.
I also want to get out to sea level to benifit from that as well.

I consider my times to be better than the ones run at firebird based on elevation. I need to go back to firebird and run a 12.5- 12.4 now.

I hope by me posting my efforts will only get others interested in running their Preludes and Accords NA.

Great times, especially for a daily driver prelude

Modlist would help, I'm not sure if you've posted it before.

Even when it is boldfaced in my sig...LOL. I post in this section, because there is more people interested in going fast rather than "decorating" their cars like in the Accord section.

My mods list is just about everywhere on this site.

Sweet times man, your a very consistent driver. Those are some nasty 60's your cutting too. I assume you have LSD and were using slicks right? Also what is the curb weight of your Accord?

LOL... I was just giving you a hard time.

As far as the engine set-up goes... Yep, that's about it.

I am working hard on the 60ft times. My car is set-up for road racing and I have yet to change my spring rates to a "drag" set-up. I am sure that if I went with a heavier spring in the rear, it would help, but since this car is a daily driver that would make the ride very rough. It is "borderline" too rough as it is for a daily driver anyway... I am running a factory LSD from the Accord SIR-t. It is a gear type. The car is also run on slicks. The weight of the car itself is 2550 lbs. aprox without me.

Awesome times again!

I also didn't know you road-raced the car! How's the tranny holding up on slicks?

Well, I set the car up to race on a road course... years ago, but I never got it out on the track. By accident, I found that the car just after being swapped could beat local 5.0 mustangs and a friend convinced to take it to the drag strip to see what it would do. I was hooked ever since. Primarily because the V8 guys made so much fun of me I decided to show them the car could run 14's and smoke a lot of their "beaters". One thing lead to another. Keith Gillespie at Hasport, many years ago advised me on my suspension set-up for road racing and I have never changed it. It really handles well on the street, but on a rough road it is borderline too rough... I enjoy the handling of the car as it sits and I am reluctant to change, but I think I may have too in order to run a low 12, but that would totally take away from being a family car.

So far the tranny is holding up well.
