Default Mulitmeter Reading

Im kinda inexperienced with reading multimeters but maybe someone can help me out. I was testing my spark plug wires to see if they are still good. Honda says the resistance in the wires has to be less than 25,000 ohms. The reading I got from the multimeter was 14.5 when set on 2k on the multimeter. So what is the resistance in the wires anyways? Can someone give me like a conversion or something because what if I set it on 20k, so do i multiply it by 10,000? Thanks for the help.

Most multimeters have either an analog scale or it is digital. If analog there will be different scales for each "range" or you will take the number and multiply it by the range value. Most Digital MMs are autranging and what you see is the reading.
So if the range is 1K and the meter is reading 14.5 then that means the resistance is 14.5K. If you are on the 2K range you would multiply and that would=29K.

Hope this helps a little.

i think mine might be a analog because there are 4 settings: 2000, 2k, 20k, and 200k.

Analog=a needle that moves. Digital=numbers on the screen. Now to the reading on a digital-each range will show itself on the display and the maximum will be shown like 1999 on the 2000 range. The analog meter has simlar markings and when the needle is all the way to the right you are at maximum for the range.
