Default modified intake

I posted before about my AEM cai, what I did is took off the bypass boot and put the filter there, its about 12" long now and sits right next to the motor. does anyone think this might work as a really short ram intake or as a temp fix until I can find a stock intake?

As a temp fix, sure. Everything I've ever read suggests that anything shorter than about 2 feet will hurt performance, due to the loss of air velocity in the shortened runner I believe.

I'm sure someone else will chime in if I'm wrong. I'd just grab an Ebay intake and be done with it.

ive heard that shorter ones give more hp but as soon as the engine gets hot, you lose hp. I ran mine like this for about a half hour and when i went to check the filter felt like it was about to melt. Imagine those temps hurting ur power output.

Your thoughts are correct I believe aswell. Short ram has been proven on dyno to yeild a lower output than a stock intake. Stock intake with a good K&N filter was the best bang for the doller. Next is a CAI I believe as it had the highest output but you have to buy the cai and filter. The thread is in here somewhere.

He could raise the rear part of his hood where it meets the windshield and leave his filter there. I wonder if that would help at all.

It is the lenght of the cai that helps though as already stated. I do believe it is the velocity that yields the higher output using a full CAI. I'm sure someone else would have a better explanation though as everything I list here is all hearsay as I have not personally dynoed those intake setups

get an ebay CAI tube with a K&N filter. the filter will be about the same as the K&N drop in, and the tube is only $40 more. Cheap way to add ponies.
