Mix and Matching Tires
I have a set of rims with three good tires and one that has an unfixable leak. The tires on these are Goodyear F1 Supercar's and they are expensive as all hell. They run about 300-400 per tire. I have a hookup to get TWO Kumho tires of the same size/profile, for half the price of ONE Goodyear.
My question is - would this be safe? Running on say Goodyear's on the rear and Kumho's on the front? Or should I just eat it and buy another Goodyear tire? If there is anyone mix and matching tires lemme know how it runs. Thanks.

Re: Mix and Matching Tires (eNYCe)
For optimum performance, obviously get the same tyre, if money is a bit tight at the moment, get a tyre that has a similar compound (silica) and that also has similar ratings....(I dont no too much about ratings since we dont have them here in Australia)

Re: Mix and Matching Tires (eNYCe)
It is, of course, preferable to have a matched set of four tires. That said, if cost is a major factor, and it seems to be for you, you can safely run tires 2+2 - just make sure you keep the matched tires together at the front and back. I actually had a mismatched set on my car when I bought it, and apart from the crappiness of the worn stock rubber on two of the wheels, I didn't have any problems.

Re: Mix and Matching Tires (tec-9-7)
I've been running the exact setup for the past 3 autocrosses. BFGs out back (they don't stick like the Kuhmos and I want that *** end to rotate), Kuhmo up front. I don't have a problem with them at all. If you need to run them for money's sake, I'd say go for it. It may take some getting used to.....but I don't have a problem with it.

Thanks a lot guys, I'm probably gonna do just that. Run Kumho's up front and Goodyears in the back. They are both Z-rated, with the same profile/size so it should hold up until I get a whole new set of tires.

damn don't worry about it. I've been rolling on a set of 17's on the back, and stocks up front just because I've been too lazy to go get new tires for either set. Other than funny looks, and being able to take off good at lights no difference.
