Icon6 MAP sensor problem please help.

So the MAP sensor is shot in my car (93 prelude h22a1 motor). They are 238 at the part store, seems to be cheaper then buying online well buying them new anyway. I also have noticed that OMNI power ones are even cheaper. But come in many different sizes. So I'm asking anyone who knows if I could use a 2.5 bar map sensor as a stock replacement? Or would I have to have some mods? I will be redoing my whole exhaust system in September and getting cold air intake if that helps and or matters. Please help a brother out here. Thanks in advance

You can use the Omni, as long as its a plug and play one, otherwise you'll have to do some wiring. The bar rating won't affect anything.

Man you could probably go to a junkyard and grab them for 5 bucks a piece, if that.

If you really want a new one, Omni power are good, stock reads to about 1 bar, so that should be fine for an n/a engine.

Wow, Thanks a lot spoolinlude and snobordboy. Just out of curiosity what does the bar reading pertain to? Just trying to figure out which bar reading to buy. Yes the omni ones are plug and play :-)

The MAP is reading Manifold Absolute Pressure, aka air pressure in the intake manifold. 1 bar is 1 positive "atmosphere" or approx 14.5 psi. the reason for higher reading sensors is for boosted applications that need the range when running 14+ psi of boost.

A normally aspirated car is generally always running in vacuum, so reading a negative value on the MAP.

Cool, thanks for explaining it my man. I really appreciate it. So for me 2.5 or 3 would more then enough. If I understand you correctly it would only matter the bar rating on the sensor if I was running serious PSI like from a turbo correct?

I was confused because on the one site I was going to buy from said this.

"If you are looking for a stock replacement sensor for a naturally aspirated stock vehicle, please contact us." Leading me to believe that I could'nt use it

Why not call them or email them and see what they say?

Yeah I already did bro. He said it wouldn't work because there is no engine management like hondata or different ecu setup. Running it on a stock ecu car, wont run correct at all. I just wasn't sure as he didn't seem sure of himself by the way he spoke. Thanks again though I really appreciate it.

Makes no sense. It should work fine as long as it fits properly.

seriously? you obviously know nothing about MAP sensors.

if you are running a stock ecu, you can ONLY use stock MAP sensors, or stock replacement MAP sensors that have the exact same voltage scaling and pressure ratings as the oem one.

oem is roughly 1.7 bar. and it's a 5v signal. meaning at roughly 0.85 bar (roughly 5 inches of vacuum which is heavy throttle but not full throttle) the map sensor will signal the ecu with 2.5volts. a 3bar map sensor at 0.85 bar will output a signal of about 1.4volts. huuuuuge difference. the ecu will think you're at way less throttle than you're really at, and will run lean as all holy hell, as well as much higher ignition, which will guaranteed blow your motor in a matter of minutes.
