ok my car idles funny, at somepoint the car will dope severely and than rev up, if i disconnect the vaccum line to the map sensor it stops it, so i figured the map sensor is bad or going bad, the old style map sensors are mounted on the firewall and are quite expensive compared to the throttle body map's, i have read that you can convert it but have never seen any follow up, can anyone please help me.
i know obdII maps are tb and obdI are fire wall mounted.

First I would test it to find out for sure it is the MAP sensor.

Then just look for one at a junkyard, eBay, or forum classifieds. I think I have a few sitting around in the garage also.....

 

how do i test it? like i said before disconnecting the vac line to the sensor fixes the idle. or is there something else related to it?

 

Well, officially you would want to follow the procedure in the Helms manual, but it does sound like it could be your problem.

You can buy one online (very good investment) from helminc.com or eBay, or you can download them for free on a number of sites. An actual book is much more helpful than a computer file, though....
