Default lost reverse on the lude ?

My car will no longer shift in reverse, Just happened today for the first time. If i do get it in to reverse which is very hard it like it is in neutral and trying to get it out is even harder. Everything else is fine. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience or knows what is wrong? Is it the tranny, synchros, clutch. Thanks.

I had the same problem for a very long time. I ended up replacing my reverse idler gear and reverse fork and it worked fine.

Did you drop your tranny to check things out? I had lost reverse shortly after I had installed a short shift adapter. In my case, I can not even get into reverse. I did not know what had happened, i thought maybe my syncros were messed up because of the adapter. I had not got around to checking things out til today. I was in the process of taking the adapter off, when the damn screw on the adapter that connects it to the cable snapped off w/ the nut. POS adapter! I wasn't planning on putting it back on, but now I am definetly not putting it back on. I was going to try some GM syncromesh, but all my other gears go in fine (except 5th but thats okay), so I probably will not try it. I have not worked on my transmission yet, therefore I do not know my way around and I do not feel comfortable dropping it. Do you think that my problem is similar to yours. I have not been able to drive the lude for too long now because of this problem. I really don't want to take it in to honda and have then tell me i need a new tranny.

You can still drive it, just pull through parking spots. Thats what I did. I dealt with no reverse for like 6 months.

I suggest you try and shift the transmission from the transmission so you know it has nothing to do with the adaptor. There is an arm on top of the transmission that the cables attach to and you simply move it in/out and back/forth to switch the gears, its really simple. Try takin the cables off (remove intake for better view) and shifting it by hand and post back.

The shifter is already back to stock, I tossed the adapter on the ground next to the trashcan so it is ready for trash pick up tomorrow. The tranny still doesn't shift into reverse with the adapter off. I will be putting a tb on soon, so i can check it out then since the intake is coming off. What should I be looking for, what indicated that you needed a new shift fork?

p.s. how's the 5th gen. short shifter project coming?

Just try shifting it by hand and see if that will work.

Try rocking the car back and forth while putting pressure down into reverse also. What all have you tried so far?

I have just started working on the lude again since I received some suspension parts in the mail. I don't know too much about how tranny's work, so I have not tried anything productive. I will give what you said a try, and post back.

Well, the way that the transmission engages reverse, the 1st or 5th gear, forget which one, has to line up perfectly. That is why it sometimes takes a rock or you let out slightly on the clutch to move the gears a bit for it to drop into reverse.

hmm, sometimes when I leave it in reverse overnight I can't get into neutral until I drive the car back a few feet. I wonder if that is connected to the problems you are having
