I ran into a problem /w my 99 prelude last night. While not in gear the car would not rev past about 6,500. If I put it in gear and was actually moving the car would rev all the way to redline. I checked the oil level and it was about half a quart to 2/3 quart low. I added oil but still am having the problem, what could be causing this?

 

why do you want to rev it past 6500 when you're not in gear anyway?
that's gonna make for a real shitty launch

 

I wasnt trying to launch at that RPM, I just happened to notice that the engine would not rev past that out of gear.

 

if you were in limp mode you wouldnt be able to rev to the redline while moving.

 

the car has a governor that wont let u rev past that while not in gear, cuz mine does the same thing, it doesnt want u to try to launch it from hi *** rpm's, cuz itll cause damage... but ne ways, u kno its not good to rev that high when not in gear right..... its really bad on ur tranny and clutch..

WOAAA, you are the first one who discover this! Congratulation!!! Anyway back to the story, it is normal when the car is in Neutral and you can't rev high. Mine does the same thing. Don't need to be worry or concerned about it.
