Default Limiting Issue???

Hi guys im still having problems with my Vtec in first gear limiting in at 6,500rpm. It is a 1994 Prlude Vtec (H22A) SI Import. Vtec works absolutely fine in every other gear except first. Oil levels, coolant temp etc seems to be ok as it is working ok in every other gear. The weird thing is when you are going below 30MPH on my speedo and change to neutral rev up it redlines at 6,500rpm. When i go over 30MPH it redlines at 7,800???? As it is an import to the UK from Japan i got the speedo converter chip changed to a better one, but still no luck. I know the car is in limp mode in first but i dont know why. Can anybody give any suggestions on what to try. Is it my ecu????

Thanks Rob

was it you that we went over this with or someone else? I think we decided that because of the converter that it was messing with the signal.

Where is the converter installed. is it in the engine bay? or is it installed right before the gage cluster?

it should be installed right before the cluster. if the converter is installed anywhere else the ecu will see it and mess up. the wire comes off the vss and goes inside the cabin from there it splits and goes to the ecu and the gauge.

you want to only effect the gauge and not the ecu.

I hope this helps

Yes it was me, the old chip was in the engine bay in the wiring loom, and the new one they installed just under the air filter in the engine bay. So this may be a reason for it??

Cheers

yeah. if you take it out. see if vtec works fine. then that is your problem.

It should be installed in the dash before the gauge cluster.

Just wanted to say thanks a lot for the info, i by-passed the converter in the engine bay (tunrning it back to KPH) and first gear worked fine in Vtec . I just need to fit the converter in the dash or below the steering wheel now, but i am unsure of which colour wire is the speed sensor?? or where it is located. Thanks
