Hello everyone. I currently drive an 02' RSX-S and have gotten several opportunities to drive my friends 99' Prelude 5M. I enjoy driving his car very much and find it similar to my car in several ways and in others I don't. I was just curious from a personal standpoint from you Prelude owners of your likes and dislikes of the car ( 5th gen owners ).
I have driven a 98' GS-R as well and found similar results as the ones I mentioned above being that the car is similar/not similar in several ways.
Basically I just want an overall opinion from you 5th gen owners.

I've actually driven a 4th gen VTEC as well, I just didn't mention it earlier. I'm just curious about 5th gens, that's all.

likes:
-handling--very progressive/predictable
-just really fun to drive
Dislikes:
-FWD
-60/40 weight distribution
-massive understeer in stock form (as a result of FWD and weight dist.)
-Damn verticle offset on brake/gas pedals makes it hard to heel-toe
-moonroof doesn't have a button to do just tilt (even my civic had one!)
-shifter is a bit notchy
-stock clutch is a bit too mushy for my taste.
-Too heavy
-stock tires need to be wider (215s)
-passenger side window doesn't have an auto-down.
-there's no split when folding down the seats.
-Did I say FWD?

Personally I think the pedal positions are fine, I can heel-toe w/o a hitch.
I just don't like the fact I burn so much damn oil. Though the guy at the Honda dealership has told me that complaint is heard alot from the Civic camp too, so apparently most Honda rings suck, not just ours![](https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif)
My biggest complaint is the SH gets a spoiler w/LED and cooler looking rims! Oh, and the eucalyptis (spelling) Green I have has a black & tan interior! Anyone have straight black interior panels/dash/carpet/seats they are looking to part with?

hehe you do have a point.
seems like i've started a trend here with the FF hating![](https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsmilep.gif)
i guess it's not so bad in a prelude as opposed to something like a DSM GS-Eclipse. Sometimes i almost feel like i'm driving a FR car when the sway bar is on full stiff and i put my balding tires on in the back--FISHTAIL CITY!!!
another thing i dislike: what's with the 4.266 final drive?

if you want a 5th gen to drag, get the base model.
if you want a 5th gen for auto-xing...etc get the type SH.
it's a very fun car to drive as a DD. the only problem is weight.
if i were you, i'd keep the rsx-s because it respond better to mods.

Should be a 2 seater w/rear mounted engine, like this lotus B18
Lighter weight, say 2700lbs or less.
Factory LSD, similar to a quaife
Larger glove box
AWD?
4 piston brakes, bigger rotors.
Rear windshield wiper?
Keep dreaming! This stuff would have made the lude over 30k....

I have a 4th gen VTEC but I'll chime in anyways.
Likes:
- Factory H22 engine - pulls like a **** compared to my previous Civics and Integra.
- Looks/Styling
Dislikes:
- Rear seats are too small and totally useless
- Wish the rear section was a lift up hatch (rear seat fold down is useless too)
- Limited aftermarket support compared to Civics and Integras
I've only owned my Prelude for 2 months now so I'm still getting to know it.

yeah but i would have loved it. maybe not AWD but a RWD lude would be so f'in cherry...you know all the drifter kids would be bustin their nuts to get one. I would drive it grip, but actually experience oversteer....ok i'd better stop before someone walks into my cube and sees me fondling myself...

if the dream came true, i wouldn't mind paying 30k+ for it.

LIKES:
Overall design of the car, small frontal area, the way the body panels, ect, really help with aerodynamic air management.
Overall styling, inside and out.
Good balance of power and fuel economy.
The rev-happy engine and the way it just keeps on making more power the faster you go.
Excellent high speed stability.
Precise handling and good manuverability.
Ease of clutch operation/shifting that really makes me wonder why anyone would want an automatic (even driving in heavy rush hour traffic).
DISLIKES
I can't find a driving position that's really comfortable for me, either the pedals are too far away when I'm otherwise seated comfortably or the steering wheel is too far away. My knees bump into the steering column or wheel when I'm shifting or braking.
Just "barely enough" headroom
Could use a rear wiper
What Honda could do to make the Prelude better (although now they stopped making them) without having to spend much money
1) NO MOONROOF
2) Tilt and telescope steering wheel
3) Rear wiper
4) More performance oriented tires as standard

Potenza RE92's belong on a WRX, not a prelude. Real OEM tires would have been great.
