The knock sensor detects detonation and retards timing. Does VTEC engage, cause without it VTEC should not engage. They cost about $135 at a dealership.

My vtec still engages or at least it feels like it does, ive only had the car for two days, i took it to a local dealership not honda because the closest one is about an hour away. They plugged it up to the computer and it threw the knock sensor code.

The ecu more than likely will go into safe mode with out a knock sensor and retard timming big time. I would check wiring and if it looks good then new sensor it is.

no worry , knock sensor don't take place until your car rev is around 5500rpm.....dats when the sensor pick up the vibration from the engine; and tell u wats sup....just don't rev that high ; clear the code and try dat........

When you are throwing a code #23 that means that there is a problem with the knock sensor circuit, (not that your engine is knocking, unless it is knocking beyond the sensors values). But yes you can drive with it on, it just puts your engine into *LIMP* mode and retards the timing way back, and richens the fuel, and worst of all for you speed freaks, it makes it SLOW. My advise is first check your connection at the knock sensor (recently fixed my friends, the pin had been pulled out of the connector a little bit and was not making contact with the sensor). And other wise get access to a helms and run through the tests and find out what is wrong
