The 'I'm new what can I do for more power' thread

Re: The 'I'm new what can I do for more power' thread (PrecisionH23a)
what you want to do to your car depends on if you want off the line torque, mid range pick up or high top end, it also depends on wether or not you have an H22 or an H23 in your lude.

Re: The 'I'm new what can I do for more power' thread (PrecisionH23a)
I recently bought a JDM skunk 2 ecu... $250.00
one of the best upgrades ive made to my car , i love it. well worth the money.
9600 rpm rev limiter , no speed gov. , air/fuel tables remaped.
car feels much stronger and seems to really pull hard in vtec now. (not sure how it do with the h23a)
id also sugest , aem cold air , good uderdrive pully set , header , cat back system

Re: The 'I'm new what can I do for more power' thread (PRELUDE_SR_V)
See i would buy the ecu, or an ecu upgrade but im not a big fan of the 9600 redline. Thats just askin for a new motor. There are sometimes when im not lookin and i hit my rev limiter at 8k. Thats fine until i get cams and headwork then ill invest in an ecu. For anyone who buys an Ecu dont you get a lil edgy everytime you race??

i agree on that , scence i installed the ecu , when i race i hit 8k + with out noticing. But im gona invest in a good shiftlight to take care of that prob

Funny how this thread has turned into a for sale thread and "I'm new what can I do to blow my motor' thread

Don't mean to sounds like a lil fairy, but what engine would be cheaper to swap in a 3rd Gen? a GSR or H22 Type R?

Re: (DubGuy86)
well a firend of mine as soon as he got his lude slapped a h22 vtec head on (his was a h23 non-vtec oviously) and that made a worlf of differance and it wasnt THAT expensive.

Re: (d0twinx)
Well, the engine thats in the 3rd gen Si (I'm looking for a 91) is a B20 I believe. I don't think I can slap an H22 head on it. I just wanted to know what was easier to swap in; a GSR or H22 out of a 5th Gen (I meant Type-S in the first post)

i say h22. way more torque than a b18. plus its kooler to have a lude engine in a lude.

Speaking of torque, how come most hondas' horsepower and torque numbers arent as close together as other cars? Like I've seen a boosted civic pushing around 500 hp and then like 300 ft lbs of torque...

Re: (DubGuy86)
Because of engine displacement. If you notice H series will produce more torque then a B series will at the same whp 'range.'

i was looking at some dyno charts and numbers. i think there is a ratio between the displacement and the amount of torque the car will produce. but of course there are other factors involved.

also remember that HP is a function of torque.
Torque is a force, measured in ft-lbs or Newtons-meters. Horsepower is power, which is calculated as Work divided by time.
Torque x displacement = work, thus power = (torque x displacement)/time.

Re: (bad-monkey)
ok back to the "making more power" part of the thread. Performance cams and camgears can make a very significant increase. Even further gains are seen with dyno and tuning along with other upgrades. If you want to get serious without going the turbo route get some tuning software like hondata, aem, greddy e-manage, or UBERDATA. For better throttle response and better revving capabilities get a lightweight flywheel.

for a turbo kit you have to prepare a lot more then all motor....yes it will be more unreliable, and will need very well tuning, planning, and a lot of parts all at once....with all motor...most of the times people will do little by little...

Hold the phone...You only have 50k on your motor and you are saving for a rebuild? Your motor is just now broke in, it's not close to being broken. remember, these are honda motors...after you hit 150k you should start saving for a rebuild. but right now, just blow all of the money on things that make it faster My 4th gen lude had 183k on it, the only reason it doesn't run anymore is because women can't drive. 50k is nothing on a prelude. if it were a cavalier at 50k? maybe you should start saving for a new car...
