Ignition Problems
I have a 94 prelude w a jdm h22a swap in it...it was a h23 before...anyways, after the swap, i have been having a lot of idleing problems and hesitation...ive have also been getting an o2 CEL..anyways, took it to the shop, they said all the wiring was correct, and that the only thing is their copmuter didnt pick up any signal from the knock sensor...anyways, they told me to go home, change the spark plug wires, cap, rotor, and spark plugs and that should solve the hesitation and possibly the CEL
anyways, i chagned the cap and rotor, and plugged everything back in..when i started it, i heard a bang, and now it wont start...it cranks, but i also hear a sound similar to a backfire...does anyone know what this could be?..ive checked the spark plug wiring, they are in the correct order....i did a search, and i guess my question is would this be the symptoms of a bad external distributor coil?
if so, doesnt my h22s ahve an internal one?..how would i be able to rewire it to copmletely get rid of the external one? thanks guys

Are you using the JDM h22 internal coil distributor
or your old h23 distributor?
Which wiring harness are you using?
Have you checked the timing with a timing gun?

im using my old h23 wiring harness w vtec and everything wired
where exactly is the internal coil located?...i cant remember what we swapped and what we didnt....the cap that i had on my distributor had that plug that went to the external distributor, so im assuming we replaced the internal one with the external one since that is what we were using?
anyone have any ideas?

I don't see why it would be your coil if it was fine before the swap.
It kind of sounds like a timing issue.
You should recheck the CEL and make sure it's not a different code.

make sure your distributor is 180 degrees off, I know the key on the distributor is made where it will only go in one way, but they can be forced in or rewired backwards and in that case they will go in both ways, so be sure that is not the problem
IM having a similar problem and ive replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires and i have a bad miss especially when the engine is cold and its very slight when the car is warmed up. The timing is set right also. The only thing i havent replaced is my distributor which is my stock H23 one with 159k on it so im leaning towards that as being my problem. My car until warmed up sounds like its running on 3 cylinders. Could a bad or faulty distributor be causing a miss? I'm pretty stumped with my issue as well.
