Default Help with Prelude Problems.

Hi,

A friend of mine is trying to sort some things out on his prelude project car and I'm at a loss to help him.. Can you guys help diagnose the problem? He is a competent mechanic, but can't figure this one out.

It was an automatic lude, he built the motor and swapped in a manual trans. The car is still on the automatic (stock) ecu.

The problem is that it pretty much won't run right. It idles perfectly, but the car under any load or tip in runs like horrible and dies out frequently.

-Not throwing any codes
-Getting good spark and fuel - positive about this
-No clogs in the exhaust system (cat was hollowed out to make sure it wasn't clogged as well.
-Not the O2 sensor
-Map sensor, we think works fine
-Engine is fine - passed compression and leakdown tests perfectly.

It makes quick work of plugs, blackening them pretty quickly, but the o2 sensor doesn't come out black.

BTW its an OBD1 lude (95 IIRC).

Could it be that all he needs is a manual trans ecu?

You can cut the Resistor out of the ECU to Disable the Automatic part of the ECU.

Pm Xenocon or w/e the ecu guys name is that sells chipped ecus he can tell you exactly which one to cut.
