Help, engine wont start!
Hi guys. The problem I have is when I tried to start my car, everything would turn off and stayed off. I just bought new battery, and its worked fine. Two days later, I would get the same issue. First, when I put the key in, normal door noise would go off, then after I turn to ON, all lights on my dashboard would appear like normal. As soon as I turn the key to START, I heard one click, and everything went dead. All the lights are out. If I remove the battery terminal and reconnected it, every lights and noises would turn on. The moment I tried to start again, same thing happen over and over.
I just got the new battery tested, and the result was good. I turn on my headlight, and I did not noticing any dimming on the lights. I googled around, and found it could be a bad starter. Is this could be it? If I jump start the car, it would start and run fine. I did removed the negative cable to see if the engine would shut off, fortunately it does not. So am I safe to say my alternator is good?
Has anyone experienced this and know any ideas to my problem?
Thanks

i had the exact same concern on my 92' honda prelude. Try switching out the clamps on the battery or making sure that they are 100% secure. Once i replaced my OE battery with a new one the clamps didn't perfect fit and i was not able to start my car successfully until i got the new clamps and tightened the crap out of them
If your alternator is bad your car will still start, it just won't recharge itself. I would check the solenoid on the starter or your ignition tumbler. My key is really worn down and I need a new ignition cylinder. Sometimes it will pull stuff like that. My bet is it's the starter solenoid tho.
I would say starter solenoid also. It can test fine at shops and still be bad also, had that happen. But it can be a simple fix on an ignition relay or starter/alternator. Good Luck!
If possible, try to push start it.
If that works and the car stays on (especially with all electrics on/running) then its 99.9% a starter related issue.
Edit. Oops! I didn't see that you jump started the car with no problems. If that's the case I'm out of ideas.
