Headlight surging idle problem
At night when my headlights are on, my idle starts to surge up and down. Sometimes I can turn on my AC and it will stop but sometimes it won't. During the day, everything seems to work fine. Anyone know what might be the problem and how to fix it? It's a 92 prelude with a jdm h22a.
something similar happens to my car I have a 97 Civic with a JDM h22a...at start up my car will fluctuate in rpms like from 2500-3000 or so...by the time it is warm the fluctuation is gone BUT now the car idles at 1k instead of a normal idle. I am going to be troubleshooting the problem tongiht, I will let you know what I find.
** before the idle problem existed my car when i would come to a stop would practically if not stall idle really low then got back up to the normal idea**
any suggestions i would also be open to hearing thanks

i have put the idle to proper spec, tired higer spec, and tried the lowest spec that I could try. Alll with the same results. I tried it this afternoon, turn the headlights on, then ac on, then turn the ac off then the idle goes up and down. What the hell is the problem its driving me crazy.

Well I tried my headlights on, playing with my steering wheel instead of shutting on and off the ac, the idle still bounces, it seems that with my headlights on adding an extra load then shuttting that load off, i.e. ac or ps the idle will bounce. help guys!!!

THat funny i have a 95 civic with an h22a in it and i have no problem with idel in the day but when night hits when i have my lights on it dose it. So what i did and NO longer have a problem on any more. i just one day started my car then put the lights on and turned up my idel controll screw till it was normal. Now in the day time i idle at 830 to 900rpm's and at night with my lights on i idle at 750rpm's. Never had a problem sence then.

I had a problem with this when I had a code for the ELD ( electrical load detector). It never gave me a cel but always had the code when I checked it, see if ur ecu gives u the same code.
It does it with headlights on and another load such as ac or power steering, I cleaned out everything fitv, iacv, and tried adjusting my idle numerous times. Hey MyLilCivic just how did u adjust it, did you take the connector off the iacv, turn on headlights, then adjust it, and to what rpm exactly.
Don't know if you thought of this...the same thing happened with my H23. I tried reseting the ECU to no avail. It ended up being the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) i just replaced the whole throttle body with a better one. You might try that.
all i did is i was driving home one night it was pissing me off so at the gas station i poped my hood with my lights on and i twisted the lil screw on the throttle body till with the light load on it it was at 750rpm and then when the lights are off its at 850 to 900rpms. I also did not unplug anything just let it run when you do the change.

You need to reset your Idle. Make sure you Disconnect the battery to reset the ECU. wait 10 seconds or so. Plug back the battery.
My car Idles low also...I have no time to reset idle. When I turn on A/C the Idle goes up.
With the Ligthing..You may need to re-do your wirings. Sloppy wiring work is very hectic to fix.
In all my honda years...I've changed 6 Honda ignition switches. Re-done like 10 Ground wirings sets. You're may be overloading the current flow.
How I love stock now a days. If it aint broken dont fix it. If you fix take hella long time so you don't have to do it again.
It takes my 3 hours to install a headunit and it's only 13 wires. But Fitment and soldering properly is worth it when you love your Honda.

okay heres how I reset the idle warm up car, take off iacv connector and I screw the idle screw in all the way and its about 550-600 rpm, thats the lowest I can get, then I take off the 10 amp fuse thing(or should i disconnect the battery for 10 secs, i tried this also one or twice but maybe I'll try it again). Reconnect the iacv connector then plug in the fuse again or battery. It will idle at around 900 but after a while drop to 800. It seems that if my car hits about 1300 rpm it will bounce. Its like this headlight on, it will go to like 1000-1100, and if turn on ac or use power steering it will stay there, but if i turn it off, it will rise to 1300 then bounce to 1000 and so on...
also how can i get my idle lower, cuz sometimes when I turn it off (ac, ps) with headlights on, it won't hit 1300 rpm, only like 1100 or 1200 and it will try to bounce but then slowly comes back, thats when my car really idles low maybe around 750 to 800. So review car sitting there 750-900, headlights 1000-1100, headlights and ac or some load same, trying to figure out this problem...priceless
so really I want my load with headlights on below 1000 rpm...I'm open to more suggestions.
