h22 h23 engine identification problem help!
Ok, here is the deal. A friends sister wrecked her prelude si, i thought it was a 93 but turns out its a 92. He said it had a red VTEC valve cover on it. The vin# shows that the car came with a 2.3L non vtec motor. Since she bought the car used i figure that 1 of these 3 things happend.
1 h22 was swapped into it
2 h23/vtec conversion was done
3 they put a vtec valve cover on the h23( is this possible??)
The car is at a yard in colorado 2000 miles away so i cant go look at it. I am in the process of having the yard guy go look at the engine block code.
so my main questions are how likely are
how likely are any of the above(especially the valve cover compatibility issue)
how much would the full h23 swap be worth motor tranny ecu shift linkage the whole nine?

The valve covers are different, I don't believe you can put an h22 vc
on an h23 head.
Ask her what side of the valve cover the oil cap is on.
The h23 has it on the right side, and the h22 has it on the left side.
You could also check the red top/blue top v/c thread in the FAQ's
that Joel (satan_srv) posted.

Only way which isn't certain is to see what the head stamping is, most standard versions will be stamped P13. Highly unlikely you got a Euro R or SiR S Spec.
