The good and the bad
Hey just wanted to share some info and ask some questions about my new jdm h22 vtec in my 93 prelude.
I recently swithced over to a jdm h22a1 vtec i purchased from Japanstarmotor.com and i want to say that this car is fast! ( i surprised a vr4 when i pulled up to him)I upgraded the motor with dc 4-2-1 header, cleared out cat, apexi n1 cat back, aem shortram, JUN chipped ecu which allows my car to have a rev limiter of 9600 rpms and shft around 8 and still pull. I also replaced with a 12 pound act flywheel and exedy clutch which i am happy with but kinda wish i went with a more performance clutch. I also wennt with skunk 2 coil overs and kyb gr2 struts. I also purchased the jdm hiro front lip and jdm side skirts form a value kit.(witch arnt on yet).
Thats the end of the good news now with the bad.
After runing this car for about a month and a half with out any problems. The first one appeared. I was driving aroud yesterday and all of sudden my gas pedal wasnt doing anything. It wouold accelerate fine then about 28k the gas pedal woudnt do anyting, the car would just idle like it was sitting. My car did not stall and i had it at an idle the whole time while i was trying to diagnois the problem. I thought it might of been the fuel maybe water or ice, but hen again it didnt stall or change the idle. Im thinking something with the throttle? If there is any answers im all ears.

Can you post a picture of that Hiro lip?
When you say idle, what do you mean. If it goes down to 750 rpms, the car is going to slow down REAL quick or it came out of gear. Do you mean that there's hesitation or what???

If you can get a friend to help you tell him to gas it and see if your cable moves the butterfly in the tb.

I was looking at my car and i noticed the tps sensor wassnt hooked up, so im going to play around with that and ill post how i cam out. THe jdm lip you can see at 2loww.com.
Yeah, plug in the TPS.
I've seen that website, but it's rare to see anyone who actually has that lip. Do you have pics of it on your car??

I also have the lip sitting in my basement. Im going to Wyotech in the spring, for automotive tech and performance. There i hope to meet a few people that know how to paint and are in the auto body classes there. So i plan on getting a whole paint job(orignial stock color) with my jdm lip and skirts put on. The black prelude you see on the 2loww website looks real good. Im glad i didnt put it on this fall, because with all this snow i would be plowing the streets.
WEll the TPS is broken but my car is fine now. the throttle dosnt hesitate anymore, maybe the cold weather had something to do with it. maybe the computer had a bug in it. I just hope i dont see that problem again. But i now have to buy a new TPS from honda which is probably going to be expensive.

Honda will charge you $500 for the TPS attached to a new throttle body. Just get one here for $20-40--http://motors.search.ebay.com/...usZbs

If your block code says H22A1 it's not JDM.

throw that ecu away. don't even think of going past 8000rpms, you're kidding yourself if you actually think it's pulling at that rpm level. Anything above that and it won't be long till you destroy that motor

I went form a h23a1 to JDM h22a, my Jun chipped ecu allows me to have a rev limiter at 9600rpm, and since the jdm redline is 8200 i shift way beofre 8, but this ecu does allow me to do that, and i have pulled after 8grand once, when i tested it.
ok first off if you are thinking you bought a jdm motor you got gipped if it a h22a1. the real jdm motors dont have numbers after the last letter. the h22a1 came out of the usdm 93-96 prelude si-vtec. second the h22 dont gain any power past 7200-7300 rpms unless it is built big time. do some research on here and look at the dyno charts. third if you are saying that you took a vr4 in a race you are dumb. the vr4 is a allwheel drive stock turboed car, not a chance!
to try and help you i dont understand what you are saying, are you saying that you can only rev it to 2800 and it wont rev any higher or what? check the throttle cable to see if it got cought on anything or if it snaped and also check your sensors and make sure they are plugged in and check all the vacum lines on the intake manifold. good luck with your car!!!

The problem with my car is that i would accelerate fine then around 28k my car would not accelerate anymore. Or if i reved up then reved up again at a stance the throtte would miss and the pedal would feel like it wasnt doing anything(but the car is still running) then it would repeat again. The cable is fine. Im now driving it. The problem dosnt happan anymore but that dosnt mean its fixed. I noticed that my TPS is un pluged andbroken. I remember when i put the jdm motor in it came witha pin missing, and it jsut came unpluged probably from driving it around. i dont think that is the problem though since i am driving it now. I am going to replace it though. Maybe it was jsut cold he in upstate New York, thats the only answer i have.
Now my motor is Jdm , the block doses say h22a, my type O with the 1 after the letter. And with the mits. vr4 Im not saying my car is faster, im not 320hp with all wheel drive but i can tell you i did surprise him and i did pull him in the race. Maybe he was having a bad day, maybe he was having boost problems, but i can tell you that when i was in 5th gear my passenger door was at his front bumper wehn the race ended. And you know hoe most street races end, with TRAFFIC.
The Jun chipped ecu i had purchased because the company i bought the motor from did not send me an ecu, so i had to purchase a new one, so i got one chipped because when I attend Wyotech in April i plan on building my motor.

Please stop saying 28k. That means 28,000. You mean 2.8k or 2,800rpms. Unless you mean 28k miles.

1st of all you are gay if you were racing in 5th gear. If you want to know who's car is faster you either race from a stop or like a 20 mph roll to like 60 80 90 somthing like that. I have never hit 5th gear in a race. Also, if you were racing any car with a decent turbo in 5th gear you would get smoked. Turbo cars on the highway are going to beat a naturally aspirated one. Your info on the red line on a jdm h22a is allll wrong too. You say its 8200.... its 7400 just like the us model. The fuel cut off (rev limiter) is around 7800. Good luck keeping that motor in running condition long enough to get it to wyotech for your "build."
