FAQ: How to determine tranny gear ratios without counting teeth.
It's too bad those profiting off of content provided to their site for free don't appreciate the service.
*edit*
Today, being healthy, amenable and solvent I've had a change of heart.
Here's the write-up. Just not on H-T.
Thanks, Internet Brands, for the bandwidth. :D

Brilliant!
But I don't agree with the assumption that FG is always 4.2667. EUDM VTEC trannies have a crappy 4.062 FG. But anyway in this case the results would not fit any existing tranny, so it will force another pass with the lower FG.

Nice write up. It looks like it takes less than one pint to set up and take measurements (and pictures) lol.

is there a way i can get the write up on this? the identification tag on my transmission is gone, havent looked for a stamp on the housing yet, but came across this in a search with respect to the title of the post, this could quite possibly help me identify my transmission if i new the procedure and i havent found any other links or pages to the writeup on this.
after 12 years i would hope a procedure like this would be archived...
