engine turned bipolar
2000 base prelude, slightly modified.
I used to shift at 7,300 around there perfectly with no problems than yesterday i install an amp and a bass and now my Vtech kicks in really weak and my engine wont let me rev any higher at 6,700, when it gets there it acts like if i just tuck the gas pedal off but i really didnt. I changed the spark plugs, checked wires and ran Duralube Fuel System Cleaner right after the problem started and nothing changed. Could the amp be taking too much voltage from the battery and all i need is a capacitor or could something more serious be going on?
Thanks

^^ ya you added nothing to help.
like piotrush said you are probably low on oil. or the screen on your vtec silinoid could be gunked up. the amp shouldnt be doing anything to the car.

Ditto, Just coinicence about the amp install.
I installed a system as well recently, and had no issues.

most alternators pump out around 90 amps. I don't know what a typical car would use under regular driving conditions (I would like to know if anybody knows, I'm sure it fluctuates with speed, and accessories, ect.), but you should be able to run a heavy system without any problems.
I'm with everyone else that its not the system. I guess for ***** and giggles, you can check all your fuses, but Unless you somehow grounded something out and popped a fuse and now your in limp mode, I dont see how your system would be the problem.
I use to have a monster system in my first lude and the only thing it did ways make my car heavy as hell an my lights dim when the bass kicked in. But that was fixed when I put in a cap.

Oil level is fine, i checked that either way without knowing it could be a problem. Sorry, brand new to honda, how do i clean out the screen? and Anybody who can point me in the direction of it?
be carful....and use a good parts cleaner....and let it dry....put it all back together...pretty straight....forward...i mean u know how to take it off....right....if u dont there should be 3 10mm bolts....unplug the wires that go the soleniod....and there u go...
It won't work. VTEC can't kick in weak. It's either on or off. It can't kick in partially, or half way. It's either all or none. If it is engaging, that's it. No need to clean anything. It may feel weak because the computer is in limp mode, and running very rich, with the timing retarded. In that case, what you're feeling is a power loss, and not VTEC kicking in weak.
Maybe he just took off the top spool valve portion, and not the actual VTEC solenoid as a whole unit. I made that mistake when I was a noob at working on cars. The screen is behind the VTEC oil pressure switch, inside the gasket.
But like I said...its not going to help.

i took off from the base, the 3 10mm screws and there is the gasket, no screen. Vtec started to kick in again but it still limits me to 6,800 rpm. I ran another diagnostic and i got error p1259 something about manufacturer moniter fuel...something like that, i wrote it down but i dont remember where i put it. a friend of mine told me he got the same error on his RSX and they had to change out the whole throttle body.
found the problem seems that when i installed the sound system when i removed the kick plate on the floor where the ecu is the cables for vtec had become loose, put them back in and woooohoooo vtec relives :D
