Default engine swapping!!

due to the price of a rebuild, my '93 H23 is saying goodbye. i've been looking for engines for a couple weeks. a direct replacement from honda will be just over 4 g's for the short block. that's a tad expensive. a couple questions, what are the differences in the JDM and the USDM engines? and where is an alternative place to get either my H23 or another engine which may be a low maintenance swap?

there was just a nother post on here a few days ago about places to get swaps from. do a search and you will find all the info you need. If you planning on getting rid of the h23, you might as well just do the h22 swap. it just drops in with minor changes (adding 2 wires). But do a search and you will find all you need

Yeah buddy, don't sweat that! I took my car in to the honda techs here in Jacksonville, FL and they told me about the same thing and that it was going to cost me as much. You can get a JDM H22 and have it installed for less than what Honda will charge you for an H23, so I say go for the swap....it's more fun.

a lot of people tell me to go with the H22 swap. two reasons i don't want to to that. it's been done, so kinda boring. second, i want to apply a reasonable amount of boost, so i need my low comp. ratio. i've debated getting another H23 and just having the rods changed to lower it to around 9 or so. i haven't researched enough to figure out how much boost the stock pistons can take. anyway, besides the H22 swap, any other ideas?

are you parting out your old H23? If so, I have some things I might be interested in.

Thanks -

It's not like you have many options with a motor, the prelude is heavy so you need some displacement. The H22 is your best bet, being that you have a prelude and the H22 has a lot of HP for the $$$. It's not ideal for turbo but you could build it for turbo with high strength connection rods, crank and pistons......... It all depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

I wouldn't boost the stock H22 with more than 8 psi.

Changing you rods would not lower your CR.

i say go with the f22b jdm engine.
it has 160 hp and 148 torque and you can get it for around $700 with 40,000 miles or less. I had my f22b swap done about 2 months ago and my car is running great and it is reasonably faster with jus tintake and exhaust. I have raced h23 ludes and beat them easy so it will also be faster than before. Just an idea. Good luck with ewhatever you deciede.,

understandably the F22b is a SOHC correct?
not bad power for a single cam
