Engine Swap Help!!!
So a friend of mine is selling a 1998 Prelude SH for $1000, but the engine is gone and not repairable, I am really considering to take up this car and buy a H22 to do an engine swap and redeem her road worthy however to my limited knowledge on Preludes I dont have any idea which one of the H22 engines will be ideal for this swap...??? H22a4? or please some experts give me some advice, btw it is a 5speed manual tranny.
Would it be best to buy a JDM engine or scavenge around the junk yards for an engine??

best engine to buy would be a JDM h22. beleive it or not h22 are very simple to swap as long as you have the right tools(engine hoist). u can buy them with lsd transmission as an add on. if i were u , u want to make sure the engine harness is good, if not rebuild it using parts from home depot. mine had oil all in it and was cracked(plastic protectors). clean that out and use new plastic. best place to buy your engine from a reliable source is:

dude is in Canada and my engine was spotless when i received it. im not sure what particular h22 u need, but it will have to be odb2(97 or higher). for a $1000 if the body is good, that is a steal and hard to find.

^ While he's somewhat right, don't put much weight into those words.
In order to bring that SH shell back to life, you have one of three options.
1. Replace engine with H22 from another SH. (rare)
2. Replace engine with H22 from another ATTS model. (rare & expensive)
3. Replace engine, transmission, ecu, axle, halfshaft, etc with base model parts. (lots of labor)

but if i want to find an engine with ATTS unit it should be a very straight forward swap as i dont have to make any changes to the car but if i get a base model it will require the switching of all wiring and basically all directly engine related parts??

so i been lurking around on other forums all over jdm engine sites... and it seems that an H22a type s is the most powerful, just to make sure the type s should come with a red top correct?? and i saw an ad saying that the h22a type s has an atts unit on it, would this be any different than a black top and an atts other than power difference and compression would the red top cause any complications to the swap?
so question: with the american version of H22 engines is it a must to use 91 octane gas?? since the American version uses 10.6:1 compression and the JDM one uses 11:1 compression would the JDM one be okay running 91 octance as well, since i am in Canada 91 octane is usually the highest, gas stations that pump 94 octane gas is kinda far from my place. Whats the fuel requirement for the H22 engines? i heard that sub 90 octane gas will cause knock so if i go JDM is it a must to go 94 octane??
