Engine Swap with 4ws
Hey Guys,
I'm new to the boards and I did my search on this question I had but couldn't find the answer to it.. So hoping some of you can help me out!! I've got a 92 lude SR or SI with 4 wheel steering. I know that its a computerized 4ws system.. so my question is have any of you guys done a swap from H23 to H22 and still kept the 4ws? Or do you just lose that whole function of your ride? Any input would help!!!
TIA

I am about to have my H22 dropped into my 4WS Lude.
Yes, it will work PERFECTLY fine. The 4WS is controlled by its own ECU. Do you see that amp looking thing in the back left half of your trunk?? That's your 4WS ECU.
It's as easy of a swap as a regular 2WS Prelude.

I concur on the above... My H22A is being dropped off Thursday AM and my H23 is almost removed...
If you have any doubts at all, talk to me on Monday and I'll confirm that it works just fine as many other people have said

Re: Engine Swap with 4ws (idolized1)
Visually it works, but engine ecu exists in two versions for every prelude equipped or not equipped with 4WS (2.2 vtec 4WS exists for sure as jdm and eudm - europe).
You can find a mark 2W or 4W on the side of engine ecu.
I had the same question about 2 years ago, but nobody nowhere has been able to answer what is the difference in 2W and 4W ecu.
By the way there is an electrical connection between 4WS ecu and engine ecu (one wire) - maybe there is some kind of data transmission ??????????

Re: Engine Swap with 4ws (wstef)
So I guess when I do my swap it'll work the same?! (lil confused) What if I were to just rip out the 4ws ecu would the car's turning abilities be the same as a 2ws? or will it juss suck?!?!?

Re: Engine Swap with 4ws (idolized1)
If you just would remove the unit, your car becames mechanically undriveable: the rear wheels would turn left and right almost freely (read some post just on the begining of "4WS error codes" thread)....
Electrically it would work if you change the ABS control unit (it is different for 2WS and 4WS - the 4WS one got 2 additional terminals that are connected with 4WS unit - the ABS seems to work differently if the rear wheels are straight or not, whitch is determined by these 2 terminals).
